Ever thought about switching to an ID and NPC faction which suits your original concept might have been a bit easier than changing in a way you don't like to fit the ID and NPC faction you chosen? That if you don't want to be a pure-perfect-mostawesome-hunterkiller-kingoftheuniverse-type all-strenghts-no-weaknesses faction, because those won't really be accepted here.

Ummm no not really, the area we chose to work in seemed to be the best fit in all, and as for the long word thing..... tried saying it a few times without taking breath and...... well can't lol

No we have made it clear from the beginning that is NOT what we are after just a slightly more balanced playing field for the newer guys coming in. Never have we stated that we want to even own a system, we dont want permanent status we dont want to go all out against the server in fact if you read ALL my posts that is the complete opposite of what we are about.

But as stated, several times now, the original thread was about declining numbers and I am just throwing in my observations from our near 2 months on server, about how things may be made a little easier for the new guys without the outright hostility from the existing community.

As someone else said, it's the Internet- it brings all sorts together- how about a little tolerance & inclusion?

It's okay, it's just that you sounded a bit frustrated that you had to alter your original concept by a lot and that you didn't get the reward you thought of deservng, while to others said amount of effort might count as some sort of default when getting initiated into this community. You also mentioned a modus operandi I could find a good few factions more suited for it than Colonials. (idk what other faction you play.) Additionally you brought up a hypothetical scenario where it requires way more effort for you to confront a faction than to others, but that is quite logical due to many possible reasons and is not different in real life either. You should have already gotten used to things like geographical and financial differences of countries/nations. Given these I'm not entirely sure what your point is.

On an other note, judging by your "hit the proverbial nailhead" comment on Spazzy's thread I assumed you grasped the essence of what he tried to tell us, but then you asking for tolerance made me unsure about it. Spazzy's point was pretty much that two different types of players gather in here with different preferences than the others and that these preferences pretty much exclude eachother.

You got a bunch who came to roleplay because this is a roleplay server, and are annoyed by the "relaxed" folks because their behavior on the server and forums is immersion breaking, thus it ruins their fun. On the other hand you got a bunch who came to shoot the hell out of the other, because it's an arcade shooting space sim, the game is designed to be a mainly pvp game, and all these roleplay rules and the elitism of the other folks are obstacles in their fun. The two camps clash from time to time, because there is barely any compromise. Declining numbers can easily be the result of people bailing out of this conflict, roleplayers because of lack of roleplay, pvpers because hatred can result in ganks, and whatever other reasons you can find. And of course this game is old, and the influx of new players isn't what it used to be.

Well you probably don't want feedback from 'newer' players but I will brace myself for the onslaught anyway......
*SNIP*

As someone who initially felt much as you do -

I've been around over 6 months now, although only more recently (last 3 months or so) have I really started to scratch out a patch here and call DiscoGC my home server.

At the start I was very disheartened. Now I am determined to just ride it out. I like to think I am a serious RPer, and this is what led to my disapointment here at the start. sindroms nailed it when he said this -

"This is an RP server, if you aren't here to RP, leave."
"Stop kidding yourself. This is a pvp game with minor RP elements. Wake up and smell the butter"

Depending on what you are trying to acheive, you will invariably get one of these two answers. Guys here say "Don't take it so seriously". But if you want to acheive anything on this server you must. Storywriting and RP take real life time. That's worth taking seriously. There seems to be an infinite hazing period, where you are just one of the noobs and therefore can't possibly reach the quality and awesomeness of past glories.

Not that this will stop me trying mind you. This isn't the first Freelancer server I have played on, and is certainly not the most stringent RP environment I have played in (DUSA, now that was RP purism gone mad).

I am left wondering what it takes to break through that noob period and start having your ideas realisticly considered.

i generaly dont play unles theres 100 r more people online, which means I can only play at 6-10 AM most days. Als trading s th least lkly actvty to encourage interaction, as most traders are trying to AVOID pirats. If you want interaction look at the player list, see which systms have the most players, and g thre.

Trading and NPC farming, those were my main activity, when player's count was low, as it usualy at morning and afternoon. As a cap fan, I always had ways to spend the money, so, can't say it was completely boring.

While trading on my SIS I could meet some players too and having some RP with them and so on....

Fair enough, but mate, don't you think, that wasting spending your time, to achive something on a gaming server, being pixel king, is a great deal?
Of course, if it's your way of having fun, then ok, I wish you good luck. But if do it, just because your goal to be indeed pixel king, for the sake of being pixel king, then, I thing it's not even worth trying.

You obviously didn't got the phrase correctly. It was about the server well-being not about some in-game stuffs.

I actually don't do it for that. The truth is I'm addicted to scifi writing, and Freelancer is the perfect channel for that addiction.

There I said it.

Not many people that I've personally seen can pull off a decent non-lawful roleplay without sounding utterly cliche. But that leads to my other point. Every single person has their own view on what is quality roleplay. There is no way we can uniformly judge what is a good level of writing and ingame interaction, so there is no way someone can point at something and go "RP like that and you will be fine" because someone will take issue with it regardless of how accepted it is by the majority of the community.

Disco's RP has never been too ''deep'', because everyone here are still playing Freelancer, regardless of what setting it is. It still is and remains a pvp game and, as many as might not agree to this, it will have some sort of influence. Good RP can get you that far. You must be good at PVP to actually make an impact or somehow live up to whatever it is you are RPing at the time.

Disco is odd like that. An oddity not many can adapt to. Sadly said bulk of people do not simply leave, mostly because that while we are still a niche community, we are still currently the most active multiplayer-orientated mod for this game. Which means it does not only attract roleplayers, but people looking to play the game itself. We can't please both. This is where the bitterness comes.

"This is an RP server, if you aren't here to RP, leave."
"Stop kidding yourself. This is a pvp game with minor RP elements. Wake up and smell the butter"

That is something that will always be a part of Disco. Just like people acting like their roleplay is holier than thou because they fly a mkI ship.

RP purity is a part of every rp centered community. Our just happens to pin the blame for the lack of purity on certain aspects which we cannot physically remove from the game anyway.

EDIT: That's the thing, actually. About what I mentioned about the ingame environment. Most people prefer forumlancing, because it is a controlled environment and can get them further than having to bother with things going on ingame.

Sindy... no.

If you are playing a PvP orientated faction, then yes, being able to shoot people faster than they shoot you and waggling your mouse to alternate angles of the screen/spamming keyboard commands is useful.

However, I play in an unofficial faction that has survived, grown and thrived both ingame and on forum for one and a half realtime years off RP alone, and surprisingly, people actually like us. Hate to break your theorem.

You also disassociate Rp with ingame activity and PvP. The first creates enjoyable experiences of the second and third. Look at server events, remember Toledo, remember old pre-organised LN v RN player verses player combat. Magellan? Never would have happened without the Gallic roleplay advancement. Do not interpret a disconnect when none exists.

All of the Roleplay I execute is done to the end of executing enjoyable ingame ramifications, and the general thrill of writing Sci-Fi Rp with mates. What do you play for?

Which mod version are you talking about in those two paragraphs of happy memories?

PSA: If you have been having stutter/FPS lag on Disco where it does not run as smoothly as other games, please look at the fix here: https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...pid2306502
