This twitch thing is business. So you must approach to it like one.
In order to have fanbase and make any meaningful money out of it you need specific traits that the said fans would appreciate.
Since it is all about gaming your most important skill must be to be really good in some game.
People want to watch something that would improve their gaming experience If you are not top of the line player you wont make any money out of it.
I have a friend that started there at the beginning when twitch was new. He made some money fast because of League of Legends game while later his income decreased dramatically because professional League of Legends teams and players made their channels. Eventually he gave up.
Other option is to be have the said charismatic thing that so little people posses so you can find followers because of your personality but still the first method is more effective because there are specific trainings that allow you to present content in a way to please the viewers. But you need the said content first. You must focus on target group- noobs that need tricks to get the game basics or focus on professional gaming.

(yes, i've seen enough of those lolduels, where house military with overwhelming force on the field willingly loses a pilot in a duel. ffs.)

I'm not a terribly good gamer but In the past when I played FPS games I was actually quite good, lost the skills though (started playing strategy games).

Maybe I'll try to work the second angle.
