' Wrote:Nice rant, however, the liberation of Manhattan was to allow it to become an open port for cardamine smuggling and other nefarious events. It worked. Those smuggling, allied, or Zoner were left alone, however, lawful defenders were attacked on sight as happens in the reverse. In addition, our presence outside was advertised many times over open frequencies. Also, it was spontaneous hence the motley group of individuals.
I actually think that is a grand idea, maybe it should be posted here with a specific time and date, so others might be able to get in on it. I for one, would have definately taken part in it, had I known what was up. A spontaneous act like this though catches all unaware, and everyone should be given the opportunity to either join it or avoid it. I just entered NY, flew to Manhattan, and was killed. Had I known there was a pirate/smuggler keg party going on there, I definately wouldn't have flown my little ship there alone, with no backup. Advertising such an event fuels the RP fire and gets all involved who choose to.
If it's not posted, perhaps an Admin can advertise over the Console? "RP fight in Manhattan space, Cardamine smugglers attempting to free Manhattan. All who wish to participate, event starts in 1 hour. All not wishing to participate, please avoid NY at the time."
Just my thoughts.
Lane Security XO 003/Bravo out.
You ask me why Im weary, why I cant speak to you.
You blame me for my silence, say Its time I changed and grew.
But the war's still going on dear, and theres no end that I know...
And I cant say if were ever...
I cant say if were ever gonna be free.
' Wrote:3) As a understanding between players....don't pirate in a lawfully dominated area(where there are lawful NPCs, platforms, bases, etc...) where there are no lawful players around. Don't get me wrong though, feel free to hit the trade lanes and pirate. Just don't sit outside a Jump Gate, a Planet, or a lawful base like Pueblo Station and pirate, even if the NPCs are hostile to you.
It's bad RP. Don't do it.
Exactly!!!!
That said I don't see a problem with JGs (on the places where there is no border station)... and there actually are pirate clans that have it in their rules never to sit and pirate in front of a lawfull base/planet (you can pirate if you just fly trough and meet one trader... but never camp there).
--------
Also at one point there were Liberty Dreadnoughts camping in front of Buffalo... but after some screaming on forums it stopped...
but now the lawfull forces got so scared of beeing called capwhores that they never take them out....for me it's perfectly in RP to bring out a bloody Battleship at the moment when you have 6 pirates camping over manhattan (or Fort Bush for the record)... even if they are in LFs.
If they are at some TL far off.. keep the BS close to the base and send fighters.
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.
like many others here, I simply avoid NY like the plague. (heh, a play on words for me. 'look Ma!...No Brains!')
Anyway, If I'm trading, I barley ever take routes that pass through Liberty, & usually if I ever see NY, it's to head out of the Manhattan docking ring & straight for the door in a new character.
As much as we complain about all the crap that goes on in NY, the way I see it, it's just simply unavoidable.
Disco's popularity is HUGE & people naturally gravitate towards the largest & most populated server.
a few days ago, I was in Bretonia & was being a nice guy answering a lvl 20-something noob's questions about how to make more credits...long story short, I gave the answers & repeatedly reccomended they join the forums, assuring them that the fun factor of the game increases by a factor of 10 when they get to know the people on it.
After about 15-20 minutes, (although as polite as he/she could be) said that he/she would never join cause it seemed too much like work.
(15-20 minutes i'll never get back)
No matter how many rules we have, & no matter how much we try to help the noobs understand the server RP concept, there will ALWAYS be a huge number of people excited to try out Igiss's mod, skip all the tedious rule-reading, & just look forward to killing something ASAP.
Most of them just simply disappear after a while. The ones that stick around do so because they 'get it' & are the reason we play on the best server this game has to offer.
Go to the Leeds JG on the leeds side, Batleship Durby with overpowed turrets plus 2 BS patrols and a station are waiting for you, now thats defense.
Once you unlawfuls show up in a GB or bigger, your toast.
I have to admit the way some people are outright ignoring the rules of the server have started ticking me off just a tad bit as well, I hardly ever see admins on at my time and seeing people trying to pretend to be cylon in the Freelancer universe is a bit of a headache, I believe there's a battlestar galactica mod out there, go and run your own server on that if you want but don't go expecting everyone else to go along with it if you decide to do it on this server.
