Just raising the activity requirement in terms of time will probably just get you those [LN] in Connecticut and Order| idling in their guard systems again.

Maybe also make RP patrol reports of the likes count too?

I have noticed that the population is climbing back up slowly and factions are also getting slightly more active, especially now that the patch is released. In my opinion, we should let the factions get back on their feet for a month or two before adding the activity check once more.

They were the only thing that motivated factions to try and maintain a consistent logging time.

No they weren't. The community and mod were what motivated players to log in at all. The faction activity page simply gives you an accurate view of the server's current (in)activity.

To talk about "my" faction: a mercenary faction like the Reavers depends greatly on other factions' (specifically: targets) activity to motivate members to log. Overall activity is very low. Therefore, our activity is low. And that's ignoring the fact that more than half of the players in the faction have, uh, found greener pastures.

It is a constant "rebuilding" at the moment.
I hope that the really good Update 7 (no server outage, no game breaking bugs) motivates people to take a peek in again. It for sure has motivated a few.

However I completely understand that it is harder for some factions to recover than for others.

Therefore, I would say: No, no activity checks. Factions that know they cannot make it back again, can disband anyway. And in a few months, we can try again.

They were the only thing that motivated factions to try and maintain a consistent logging time. With this gone, we've seen a decrease in the presence of factions on the server, which in turn means less players are logging onto the server.

If we bring this back, give current factions a month of time to build their presence back up again. I agree that doing a faction activity check whilst some factions haven't logged on (due to having no forceful push to keep them logging) would be cruel as they haven't had a chance to build up their activity again.

People may say disco is dying therefore a faction activity check is pointless. That's still no excuse to maintain a lazy attitude when player factions are meant to be representing NPC factions and maintaining a good standard. And if you don't want to log, then you should part from your officialdom. As harsh as it sounds, it's the ugly truth.

Why faction activity checks were removed in the first place was beyond me, clearly this change hasn't had a constructive impact on the community and the mod in general.

[discussing intensifies]

No. They certainly weren't the motivation. Not even close. In the old days, there was no tracker and yet factions flourished. A good faction should represent their ID which should be fairly clear and not muffled by ambiguity. Pirates should pirate, police should police and so on and so forth. They should uphold good RP under duress and therefore show good example.
As for officialdom, I'm not really sure they need it.
If a faction starts up and follows those simple guidelines, they will come to be respected by their peers. Respect will earn you an officialdom of sorts. Even if it's unofficial.....
What's more, you don't need to try to be an example. You either are, or you aren't. This follows for both good and bad.
Faction activity certainly isn't the reason for a diminishing playerbase. Simply put, it's the diminishing playerbase that has resulted in less faction activity.

Factions are based on a common RP. Without that, factions will struggle.

Surely, Sirius-wide mining/trading factions will rake all the rewards unless some faction can out-play them by AFKing or just being in space not RPing.

Playing for fun is what drives faction activity. Not rewards. Not the officialdom.

If you can provide something to the faction that might make their time worthwhile and fun to log in, instead of them, playing thousands of other games, rewards and delicacies are not needed to promote them.

In short, disco is a choice which should have some uniqueness and worth to its name so that people who play a lot of games, choose it over other games that they play.
