It's like the one ring from LotR. It's users hate it... and love it at the same time.

3.11 for the ELF-kings under the sky,

Xenix for the Source-lords in their halls of stone,

DOS for Mortal Man doomed to die,

One for the Dark Lord on his Dark Throne.
In the Land of Microsoft where the DRM lie.

One Win to rule them all, One Win to find them,
One Win to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
In the Land of Microsoft where the DRM lie.

' Wrote:It isn't as simple as that. Gamers can't switch because most of their games are exclusive to Windows. Some companies can't switch either because the software they need to run their business is also exclusive to Windows.
Yep.
Microsoft strategy. Sell an OS cheaper than the proprietary solutions of that time (it was cheaper long ago. When all other OS were expensive, right before the times of Linux). Allow it to be pirated, so everybody has it for almost free. And then wait... the people will get addicted. Will know no other alternatives. The developers will develop for it... and then, once its consummated, put DRM, server side anti piracy, etc etc... and force everybody to pay for it. As all the programs will be written for it, and it will be cheaper to pay for it than to change and learn a new os from scratch.

True. I wonder what other games work with vista and what don't. It sounds really good but I don't want Freelancer dieing on me.

No way.... the "new features" in Vista are nothing but a bunch of resource-hungry eye candy, which you'll probably end up disabling anyway. Besides, things like sidebars and transparent windows have been around for years, just not on Windows. If you've ever played with Gnome or KDE (Linux), you'll know those bells & whistles get old real fast.

As to the increased security and what-not.... well time will tell.

What sh*ts me the most about Vista, is the markup they slap on for non-USA market. In Australia the Home Basic (=useless) starts at $299, up to $799 for Uber-Premium. That's like 50% over the US price. And I believe Europe and UK are the same. In effect we are subsidizing the US market. It's frigging disgusting.

Ok first of all Vista was Ms big mistake, they ass faced it so bad its beyon saving.
Good thing is they actually realised it and exstended the license for XP to 2012.

second i hear people talkin about vista eatin ALOT og ram and u need like minimum 2 GB ram to run it smoothly? BS fact is, some stupid twerp decided that vista no matter how much ram you cram into your pc, will only use a maximum of 1 GB all the rest is useless *woopie, yay for vista, unfortunately this applies to XP as well. Only ones who got it right was linux and mac -.-'

So im guess all we can do is wait for Windows 8 and PRAY as little nuns that they get it atleast as good as 98 was, cause lets face it, 98 was a good os:)

Well since it is gravedigged...

Somebody, I challenge you to give me 10 good reason why to change to XP from Vista Home Premium.

Nobody has been able to convince me yet. Your turn to try.

I play freelancer on my macbook. Runs smooth, no driver problems,
did install XP via bootcamp tho.
And I don't think people should say Mac OS or Linux OS are bad OS
just because they don't run .exe files, or don't use Dynamic Link Libraries,
As a designer Mac OS is the best system for me to use, as a gamer, windows XP is.
Mac is (almost) completely virus free, has an excellent design, runs fast,
and is in my eyes easy to use.

About Vista, I never had any troubles running freelancer on vista on my pc,
never tested the latest mods tho...
So i suggest, buy a cheap version of XP home edition SP3 (or borrow one that isn't used anymore)
Make a dual boot (which isn't that hard) and enjoy.

Mostly every problem will be solved by doing this.
