Freelancer already is DRM free. Discovery supplies a no CD crack, and there isn't any CD key...

The cool thing about GOG is that they are big enough to be taken seriously by Microsoft. And maybe they could get access to the source code or at least the alpha version of Freelancer. That would be best thing that happened to Freelancer since exe hacking and fl hook.
