What I was meaning. It's OK, if you'll write such monitoring tool on your own for yourself. It requires good amount of work.
But if you can just download tool and get pop-up messages if people you want to kill come online... that's too easy. This tool will benefit only those, who're good in killing, as a result their victims will avoid interactions even harder, etc, etc.
In the end we'll get 20 PvPwhores in conn online. That's all.

If your worried about people sitting at their computer and logging in when they get a pop-up message or something similar then I don't see what your worried about, Fl watcher (which is widely known about in this community) http://fldsw.colonpipe.biz/ Is able to do that, yet what you have predicted has not happened already has it?

Seems the community is better than I think about it.

That's the problem, it's sure that some people will abuse. If everyone was nice, we wouldnt have this discussion.

Pretty much everything we have is abuse-able, that's one of the reasons that we have rules in the first place.
All I need to do to prove my point is look to one of the latest sanction notices: http://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=119432

Should we get rid of the recruit ID because it can be abused? Or shall we remove guns because people might shoot someone without RP first? No offcourse not, if people report those that are using this tool to break the rules then the offenders will get punished and people that don't abuse these things may continue to have fun using them (not that the recruit ID is a ton of fun, but the ability shoot someones character is).

Sure, some things are abused , but why would you want to add more to the list of possible abuses ? Tongue Even though the whole idea is really good, it holds some bad possbilities...

There is a huge difference between taking away already existing stuff - which is part of general gameplay/is a neccessary element - because it provides opportunities for abuse, and simply not implementing stuff - which is not part of general gameplay/is not a neccessary element - because it provides opportunities for abuse.

I also would like to hear ideas on how to prove someone's guilt in metagaming cases like that. Because getting tracked down with external programs is not something you can just take a screenshot or two of like reengaging or silent engaging.

So write it for yourself and keep closed. LH~ have something like that, restricted to their higher-ups, therefore unabusable.

Let's not ignorantly support information monopolies out of fear, ya? The players online page is metagaming, the player list ingame is metagaming.. I think we've established that things of that sort are not in fact metagaming or basically everyone would be banned.

If people use this to hunt people down just to cause grief, they will be reported and admins will simply ban them for 1.2. That being said, the proximity warning definitely does need to be removed from the final product I agree. If they want to avoid interaction, make them constantly work for it.

There are plenty of ways to abuse gameplay, even with the regular tools that freelancer provide. Though I do think that new inventions can be used in the wrong way if its in the wrong hands. I guess were going to have to trust the admins to enforce meta-gaming.

my long standing arguement on the lane hackers is quiet simple ( slightly off topic but none the less connected ) - if anyone should be able to have an advantage on traffic through lanes are the hackers, it simply doesn't make sense that cops can ( that itself makes sense ) but not a faction that openly distrupts lanes and depends on it.

If LH had TLAGSNET, there would be no other pirates in Liberty. Similarly, if Navy had TLAGSNET there would not be LPI. They have better ZoI and ship allowance. They do their jazz in rp but for gameplay reasons it needs to remain out of the unlawful field of play and balance out the differences between police factions and navy factions.
