I just gonna remind you one thing, but srsly how does doing this help the ones that have that disease. Not to mention, look how much water is wasted in that challenge, imagine all the world wasting this water, for what? To feel them? Why do you need to do this, in order to help them or "feel" them? The tons of clean water that's beeing wasted just reminds me this:
Look it doesn't mean america alone, but kinda those which are doing it. Not trying to destroy the fun that some have by doing this, but let's not forget about the people which are still around without clean water. I'm sure the once having the disease, if they care for others too, they'd say the same. I'm not taking this desease lightly or anything, just want to remind what it is to be aware of things, think again.

Firstly, that water wasn't about to be shipped of to a third world country in Africa if people didn't chuck a bucket of water over themselves. Secondly the point of it all is to raise attention so that more money and therefore research can go into finding a cure for this disease which is being mostly ignored by the big pharmaceutical companies because it's not worth their while to invest a lot of money into it.
For starters, as you said, it is not just America doing this. So to point fingers at one country isn't exactly fair. 2nd, I've seen a few videos (Mainly here in California/LA since we're in a drought) use milk or another liquid. 3rd, the argument you use, while in theory is true, is finding something wrong in something good. No matter what someone does, there will always be someone to find the negative, or what is wrong with it. Sad to say, but it is human nature.
By your logic though, I would turn it around on you for making this point. Are you sending water to Africa? Are you conserving water by only taking a shower once a week or so? Are you making sure to eat all your food, instead of throwing it away? Are you sending food to Africa, or to nations whom need food for shelters?
The point is, yes - We all can do more to raise awareness for everyone/everything wrong in the world. Our daily activities, if we really dug into it, would make others shake their heads. It is a fact of life sad to say. But to turn something positive into something negative isn't fair, unless you yourself are doing exactly what you are calling everyone out for - Actually sending water or food to those who need it. If you aren't, then it is being somewhat hypocritical to call others out for doing something that is a positive.
Toji, Please watch the video I linked. Donating money quietly isn't making the disease public, and getting the message spread. Had someone donated it quietly, people like Charlie Sheen whom you used above probably wouldn't have donated it. The point is not the water. The point is to raise awareness publicly, with different means. Along with the above, check out Patrick Stewart's one. Very well done as well.
But before you say it is stupid or you don't like it, please watch the video I shared. It actually does matter, and is making an impact.

Lets imagine that someone decides to donate $10,000 and someone decides to make a video that generates 1,000,000 views. Now lets imagine that just 20% of that 1,000,000 people decide to donate $1 each. That 20% would have donated a combined total of $200,000. This probably doesn't happen in every case, some videos may lead to people donating a bit more or a bit less but it's still more money than if the few people that originally had known about it donated $10,000 each.

You need to word it more carefully. DDD
Heh, good call. Edited.
@Moriarty - Again, even if the personal people doing it think it's for fun, and aren't fully informed, their actions are still producing positive effects, and are making ALS more publicly known.
