I knew a bit about the disease beforehand and was going to post a "so I'm actually going to raise some awareness" rather than just a vague disease name attached to the image of dumping water over your head. This video was definitely worth watching when I first saw it a few days ago and would recommend it to all of you. +1 to everything Finn said here.
Done my own challenge with the preachy teachy stuff at the end, along with my own donation to MNDA (the main UK organisation for ALS/Lou Gehrig's/MND). In fact, it isn't exactly hard to find me on Facebook so have a look here if you want.
I didn't know what ALS is.
I saw the first video with the young man who has it and who cares for his mother who also has it.
Now I know what ALS is. It serves a purpose.
That illness is horrible.
I thought I'd escaped pouring ice water over my head, I had a plan if one of my family members was nominated then I would donate as well. However I was nominated four times yesterday. At least it's for a good cause
I've known about ALS for years and its nice to see increased awareness of it, but I highly doubt this meme will last beyond a few years. Take the example of Jade goody (link here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jade_Goody) She died of breast cancer and as far as I am aware there was a surge in awareness of breast cancer but since she died it gradually tailed off. 5 years later and most people have to think for a little while to even remember who she was and the whole issue.
