The Gallic Junkers
(les junkers gaulois)

Faction Tag: (GJ)-
ID/IFF: Gallic Junker
Naming: (GJ)-FirstName.LastName, (GJ)-Codename.
Headquarters: Monte Carlo Freeport, Provence

The Gallic Junkers are a part of the Junker faction that remains unaffected by the structural changes within the Sirius Junkers' chain of command. While in Sirius many of the commanding Junkers who were aware of the Gallic connection of the faction were removed from their command duties, the Gallic Junkers mostly retain their former leadership. The Gallic Junkers were used by the Gallic Navy to collect intel on Sirian parties. This was done covertly until Reunion where the Junkers were exposed by the Council.
However, the faction is no longer of much use to the Gallic Navy and other lawful forces, since their role in Sirius espionage is now over, and has been taken over by the Royal Navy's own intelligence officers. Gallic Junkers are now facing a complicated challenge of facing the future without Gallia government support. They are not trusted by pirates and other unlawfuls within Gallia, and have been exposed as spies and traitors in Sirius.
Yet, the Gallic Junkers are a numerous and wealthy group, and have a powerful lobby with the governors' administrations in several systems of Gallia. There is no doubt that the faction will continue to run and perhaps even expand into Sirius, acting as traders and smugglers across Gallic controlled Sirius and beyond. Their privateers can often be seen, looting the shipping lines carrying supplies into Bretonia, and their para military members often hunt bounties against enemies of the Crown in the Taus.

History
Since there were populated planets and the trash around them, there were always Junkers - they looked for scrap, re-used it and sold it on one of the numerous black markets of Sirius. Due to their activity, they were always close to other inhabitants of the asteroid fields - pirates, hermits and other people hiding from publicity or the law.
Because of this, none of the governments like the Junkers - but the debris fields are growing, and there is no one to collect them, so they had to live with them. Over the centuries, a never-told, but strict rule controls the relation of the government and the Junkers - don't bother us, and we won't bother you.
Because of this, the Gallic Royal Navy saw them as perfect spies and infiltrators. The Gallic Junkers soon found themselves hired and secretly aligned with the government as personal information dispensers.
This worked well. The Junkers sold information to the Navy and they were safe to clear and smelt all the scrap they liked. This was until the events at Reunion took place and the Gallic Junkers were exposed for being traitors to the Gallic Republic. This caused their turf wars with the Unione Corse to reignite, relations with the unforgiving Maquis to turn hostile, loose most shares in the Gallic Black Market from Brigands taking their stakes in the Nox business and have the Council become paranoid and untrustworthy of the Junkers. Even then, relations with the Navy began to crumble as the Junker's served no purpose to the Military anymore, with the Office of Naval Intelligence taking their place.
This caused a collapse in leadership within the faction, leading to the creation of many new Junker tribes, with each one following different goals and diplomacy. The Junkers were destined for the scrapping pits.
Strong leadership was in order, as much of the heirarchy within the Gallic Junkers was governed by patriarchies. After several bloodless power struggles a family has come to the head, the la Mare family, and its patriarch, Acel.

Goals

  • Processing and shipping scrap
  • Acquiring Premium Scrap from New London
  • Plundering weak shipping lines
  • Profiteering by any means

Secondary:
  • Domination of the Gallic Black Market
  • Inhibiting or destroying the Unione Corse
  • Establishing illicit connections in Sirius
  • The spread of Gallic culture and influence
  • Establishing a new base of operation within the Sirius sector
  • Gain access to Kusari systems for trade purposes

Diplomacy

None, so far.

Unione Corse, Maquis, Bretonian Corporations, Bretonian Armed Forces, Liberty Corporations, Liberty Navy.

Technology & Ship Use
All (GJ)- Junkers may freely use:
  • Junker Technology, such as Barragers and Scrapping Arrays
  • Junker Ships. such as the CSV and Salvager
  • Gallic Civilian Technology, such as Carbines and Pot-de-fers
  • Gallic Civilian Ships, such as Moonbeams and Aurchoses
  • Gallic Unlawful Ships, such as the l'Ane and Courier

Gallic Junkers may request permission to use:
  • Gallic Royal Navy Technology, such as Culverins and Muskets
  • Gallic Royal Navy Ships, such as Lynxes and Cougars

Ranks & Positions
The Gallic Junkers keep a simplified system of Ranks and Positions.
Ju(d)ge:
The Juge oversees the activities of the faction, managing things from recruitment to monthly finance reports. The Juge is the figurehead and hard worker of the Gallic Junkers.
Currently held by: Acel la Mare (//KaiserDietz))
Junker:
Simply put, these are the bones, guts and vital organs of the Gallic Junkers. The term 'Junker' is used lightly as a Junker can vary from fences to traders. To maintain a sense of order, Junkers are granted positions. These positions include:
Eboneur:
These are what the Gallic Junkers heavily consists of. These dirty fellows work tirelessly in the countless amount of Scrap Fields for hours on end, only to return to a station to have to process their findings too.
Négociant:
The traders and merchants of the Junkers, these charismatic people fly large (and lawful) transports, selling goods to stations, bases and even individuals who wish to buy some of the Gallic Junker's goods.
Receleur:
While Négociants deal in lawful trade, Receleurs work in a slightly more 'unlawful' field. These characters are usually found in l'Anes and deal in selling contraband to undercover groups and individuals who wish to remain anonymous. Receleurs also sell their goods in space, but be warned, those delicious pop tarts may contain strong traces of Cardimine.
Corsaire:
After the break at Reunion, the Gallic Junkers were offered the chance to privateer for the Gallic Crown in the Taus and Bretonia. Although in small amounts, the Corsaires are ruthless and destructive. This division is commonly used for intelligence gathering, when needed.
Current members in this position: Gregor la Mare (//KaiserDietz), Genevieve La Mare (//KaiserDietz), James la Victoire (//zslayern)

Relevant Roleplay
Primary:
  • Processing Licence
  • Contraband trade with Junker Marauders
  • Bounty Register for Gallia

Roleplay Expectancy
To address those who are confused as to what Gallic Junker Roleplay should be like. Gallic Junkers should place themselves above the average Junker, and show disdain for their abandoning their culture. They dress up in fancy linguistics and clothing, customize their ships with glorified lights and prance around as if scrap mining isn't a dirty business, when in reality, we're just about as important as a fly.
Our relationship to the Crown is a difficult one, but we'd advocate that we are not/ very loosely affiliated. The Gallic Junkers are proud of their heritage and so seek a strong influence of Gallic Culture, rather than a strong influence of military might.
This faction will attempt to be as closed economy as possible, meaning any funds needed to buy equipment should come out of scrapping, privateering etc. This is in order to increase the immersion of living the Junker life.

Final Notes
I've decided to relaunch this faction as I am far more versed in Discovery's roleplay environment and mechanics, and welcome any feedback you have to offer me.

This looks very tidy. I have one question though. Will you focus on Premium Scrap mining, much as Sirian Junkers have? I'm not sure what sell points (if any) are decently profitable for this particular group.

Gallia has no premium scrap locations, but there is one in New London and a sell point in Gamma. So who knows? Perhaps we could pirate those junkers working there or work there ourselves.

But to answer your question, the Gallic Junkers can do a lot more than just mine premium scrap, so probably not.

Fantastic! A Gallic Junker faction. Good to see some of Gallia awakening again - and what a good place to start.

Best of luck to you guys, I hope it turns out well - I know I'll have plenty of fun interacting with you on all sides of the Tau wars.

Grayson Matthews is coming for you...

speaking as an Outcast here: I'm glad to see your group being being open to the idea of Cardamine, could make for some interesting roleplay in the future.

Glad to see the possibility of further life to be injected into Gallia

Very well written. I can't really comment on the write-up as I know next to nothing about Gallic Junkers myself so I won't lay down my opinions through fear of having my scrotum pillaged for sperm donations.

Good luck guys, shall look forward to crossing you in the tau's and stuff.

Seems really nice to me, just some advices as French for Junker names;
Benne plongeur means nothing in french, a good translation would be Ferailleur
Négociant is nice.
Fourger means nothing too, you should translate it as Receleur or Contrebandier.
Corsaire is nice.

Personally, I have a distaste for the intertwining of Junker and Gallic Junker lore - I would also rather see GJs act as a more privateer-like faction.
Regardless, the writeup is solid and looks good. I look forward to many interactions and, hopefully, a Gallic Junker offical faction.
