All right,.i bought a new videocard,a AMD R9 270 and I cannot turn off vsync.I tried in control panel,it doesn;t work.And I really tried it.
I tried radeonpro,doesnt work.
I tried ati tray tools,it gives me an error at startup,so doesn;t work.

Any ideeas please?I cannot play with 60 fps.And please dont come here to argue with me about the morality of vsync off.I will hardcap it at 100 fps.Just tell me please how I can turn it off,it is so annoying I cannot fight at all.

Thanks fellas and happy new year!

If any of you wants to contact me,add me on skype and I'll speak to you.

You can create a profile and there you can force vsync to be switched off.

It's ok in the rules, up to 120-140 FPS or something like that. But really, there's no need for it - it would be better if people just played at 60.

You need an older version of RadeonPro (1.1.0.6) to make it work. Set up RadeonPro for Freelancer. Set VSync to "Always off" and check "Force agressive (sic) API detection level" in the "Tweaks" panel. Then use Dxtory or a similar programme to re-cap the framerate. In Dxtory, go to the "Advanced" panel and check "Limit Video FPS" and set it to 120. Make sure Dxtory always runs when you load up Freelancer when you break framerate. I don't know why I am telling you this Big Grin

There is. I'd say +20 % PVP chance in snubs purely by a technical twaak. I felt a huge leap in snub pvp once I managed to force it up to 130.

It's not about the fps number. It's about the input lag that vsync causes.

As well as the jitter...

I've tested it out for about a week a while back, sure it gave me advantages but it's not like the game is unplayable at the usual 60. We aren't talking about a pinpoint accuracy shooter, we are talking Freelancer with aim assist, wonky physics and tonnes of other things that don't really call for all that finesse.

Vsync have nothing to do with jitter. High fps does. You just have to limit it to 120 for example and you should be fine.

Edit: Just for the record, the usual 60 means the usual players with displays with 60 Hz refresh rate.

Damn, why are we discussing?

Vsync has to do with framerate -> framerate has to do with jitter. Ergo does VSync have quite a lot to do with jitter.

OP asked for a way to disable Vsync to achieve high framerate to reduce input lag. The downside is the risk of jitter on another player's screen, and in my view that risk does not make up for the added benefit for that one player.

EDIT: I think every single person in this thread is aware of how VSync works. OP asked for a way to switch it off in Freelancer on Radeon cards, as it needs extra software where Nvidia cards don't.
