At the same time the game should be kept enjoyable for people, who do not have the skill for snubs, while allowing them to stay ''competitive''.

The problem is cap balanced is messed. Hence why there's this big imbalance. Plus Snubs have a steep learning curve, which makes them unattractive for players.
And then you basically get players stuck with this problem: Snub combat is too difficult for them, and cap combat is too uninteresting and too poorly balanced for them to enjoy.
Personally though I really like flying Gunboats. I find that more enjoyable than snub pvp.

But what about anti-snub role of GB's? With this line of thinking there will be three kinds of ships: SNUBs, GB's(which won't be able to "easy-kill" SNUBs and won't be able to kill bigger caps because it would totally break ballance), and CAPs which would be pvp only each other.
But I fully agree with idea to make CAPs separated from SNUBs, because I still can't understand how 3, 4 bombers can take down big BS flying 500m from it..Thyrzul's ideas in this case sounds very reasonable.
Does anyone remember early .87 Gunboat Solaris? Those were good at their job and rightfully so. I really miss having Solaris turrets like that, they were dangerous.

Because vanilla was, too. Admittedly, it was focused only on one VHF: the Eagle.
This engine was designed for fighters. Fighter combat feels the most polished for the simple reason that it does not suffer from as many engine restrictions as other ships. A capital can make a giant 180 degree flip when bumped by a fighter, for example, which is far more awkward than two fighters bumping into one another and flipping around.
I'm guessing the high skill cap draws players in who are interested in the combat aspect of this game. After all, if you're going to be shooting other players a lot, it's fun to get a better chance of winning purely because you're more experienced and personally skilled than your opponents. It is much harder to introduce more skill-based elements to larger ship classes since they come with things such as turret zoom that make aiming much less of a challenge.

I really liked them for their anti-snub properties. They couldn't really do much damage beyond 800 meters, but they forced snubs to break off their target and start evading.
Main problem with them was that 2 Solaris GBs could kill pretty much anything.
If you remove instakill role from caps, remove it from bombers as well.

Haste, it is only fun if you are the sort of person who can contribute enough time to the game to get better.

Eh. For me it takes many, many hours of "boring" powertrading to get a competitive (CAU6+, ideally CAU8) battleship. A beginner who spends as many hours "training" in Connecticut - perhaps with the aid of more experienced players - will likely already have a reasonable amount of "skill" to work with. It's easier to get better once you get past the initial, steep learning curve.
From the pov of a new player, grinding for the larger, more expensive ship feels like better progress than sitting in Conn, though.
