I am not a programmer or coder so when you say I need to find the xml or adf file, well I can't. I dont see any .adf or .xml files in my freelancer files. I am openly admitting my ignorance so please no hurting my feelings!
Further, I now have no characters online. At least that I can find. I can see that I have visited these servers but I have no available characters.

disaster and mayhem have ensued. I must request assistance.

unfortunately, if you haven't made any of these files, then you won't have them (unless somebody sends you one)

may i suggest you post HERE with your ship names to recover any you don't have saved.

when you use the export option in launchpad, you'll make one.
do this whenever you plan to re-install your computer or move to another machine.
make sure you save them somewhere that won't be deleted (memory stick, etc)

and never make the files publicly available online

The new launcher has some other functionality besides account managing. For instance, it allows the devs to make micro patches, and push the changes to become live very easily, with no user input. While launchpad still should work for this version, it will not update the game if it requires it like the launcher will.

The new launcher can't kill the client if it crashes. That's my main reason for asking.

If a kill client command isn't included into the new launcher, I'll just have to run both side by side.
