this can theoretically work... but you have to ask yourself: why would a self-respecting pod pilot want to pilot a fighter, when they could so easily pilot, say... frigates?

EDIT: it would've worked a lot more realistically if pod pilots had the option to man said fighters when their main ship initially explodes... or if the pod pilot wishes to pilot shuttles going into planetary assault battles, or enter into PoB's as infiltration squads, where you can't fit in even frigates.
