Personally I rarely hang around a place after I've gotten the payment or cargo. Usually part of the fun is getting away with the loot. But I agree with Doria I think if they do hang around and insult you afterwards they passed up the option to pass by safely, seems like a new interaction. Especially if you keep it in roleplay the whole time it seems reasonable a guy with a gun my use it regardless if you irritate him. Its true that traders are likely willing to do so not because inrp it makes sense to get brave after paying a pirate, but because they believe they are exempt from destruction after paying the initial demand.

If that specific rule was implemented due to unreasonable demands, hit the individual players as the reports come in.
Traders need repercussions if they decide to be smartasses after they pay.

I am curious as to your attitude in reverse. I have been insulted by many pirates after paying. What is your opinion about that?

He's a bloody criminal. Be glad he did not shoot you in the face.

If, after the demand is met, the trader chooses to prolong the encounter by arguing, name calling or some sort of rant, well, I'm not going to sanction a pirate for placing another demand.

As an aside, the pirate may not hold up the trader either after the demand is met, with the hopes of getting his pirate buddies in on the action.

I expect the trader to end the encounter by leaving as well as the pirate. If the trader refuses, then heaven help him.

Depends on how abusive the trader was. I'd probably allow this scenario:
Pirate: You may go now.
Trader: Pirates like you are ruining this game.
Pirate: Oh really, that will be an extra 2 million for that comment.
Trader: Go to hell.
Pirate: You first.

Well that is just awesome then. Big Grin

Ah, so, abusing the trader player is acceptable, but getting pissed because he is using the same rules against you is not?

Considering how rules are designed to protect traders, what is wrong with not allowing traders to exploit them?

You could have avoided the pirate, you know. It is not hard. Do I really need to make a tutorial for you?
The interaction between a pirate and trader does not start when you encounter a pirate. It starts when you undock from the base and start your run. If what you do during that run ends up with being caught, that is consequence and you are the one to blame. Not the pirate.

There is no rule against a trader being lippy with a pirate after he's pirated you. Some pirates need to get over their own egos and bear an insult or two from a guy you've just shafted. It certainly doesn't justify breaking a rule and killing a trader immediately after an encounter.

Bad RP? Sure. Worthy of you killing him for insulting your ego? Not really. And in the end, it's all about ego.
