I still don't see a problem with cruising to catch up to someone who is e-killing away... when you are e-killing you can easily turn around a shoot a CD and you are farther away than if they had just kept e-killing themselves.
And if you say the no cruise thing is so people don't just come back and do pop shots... that's basically what they do when they E-kill out of range then turn around and attack... I see no problem with either tactic, this is RP not PVP...
PvP means Open PvP but more rules
RP means you can only fight people who deserve to be fought, but the PvP is more harsh seeming as tho you are trying to be realistic with it. I personally would have no problem with someone crusing away and then coming back to fight, seems perfectly legit to me. The only way you should get a 4 hour ban is if you dock in order to flee, when you do this I see it as... You've docked and hidden your ship or put it somewhere safe, and part of the other person's crew is looking for you so you gotta lay low for a few hours.
PvP rules should be for PvP servers, not RP. Excepting rules that need to be put in due to faults of the game of course... such as my example of docking while in sight of the enemy and needing to lay low for a few hours.
BUT in an attempt to stay on topic... If crusing away is considered fleeing, then E-killing away is also fleeing... But I believe that should be a common sense rule, as I could see using cruise engines during battle as a tactic even if you stay within 0.5k of the person the whole time.
As far as reporting people goes... I only report for using F1... everything else.... I consider it to be within the realms of RP. (excluding mods of course)
while i basicly agree with you - there is a good reason for that rule in terms of getting to any results in fights. - its hard to tell if someone is shield running or catching up or retreating - hence, we have the no cruise at all rule.
if you d say, cruising is allowed in specific circumstances, - you d end up in discussions about the intentions of the person cruising. cause some might say he was retreating, some say he was catching up - and some might say he was just flying a generous circle to replenish his shields.
while not such a big deal in fightercombat ( allthough - when you consider VHF vs. LF ... still a considerable one ) - it can become a little problem in capital ship fights.
be asured that i m a bad pilot, - but i d invite you to have a go at a battleship without the battleship ever shooting back at you - and you d never take its shields down if the capital ship was allowed to cruise. while its of course plausible and realistic to do so - the longevity of warships is unproportionally increased by that. ( even gunships can benefit from it, - basicly any ship thats relies more on shields than on hull / agility )
the no cruise rule is made to make things easier. there is no other reason for it but to make it easy to understand for the players. - more exceptions = more difficult situations. - and nothing is worse than having to have 100000 rules in your mind every time you fight someone.
And that's pretty much the reason why I would like to see the rule go away (except for docking). For all intensive purposes, one lone fighter shouldn't be able to take out a battleship or a destroyer, but again if they want to cruse to Regen their shields, You can always train CD them... and if you do not have train CD's ... And not to mention a few other select weapons, you should not be engaging a cap ship anyway... Again I would think it would be perfectly legit to run away from a cap ship until it goes away, and then go back to whatever you were doing. All said and done, I think it should rely on skill and arms to take out or run away from a cap ship.
And lastly, if you are using your thrusters to take pop shots at Cap ships, it's not going to work... and if a fighter wants to get away from a Cap ship, it usually can.
