The Barge ??

I have been away for a while but return to find the Barge has been replaced by a Carrier!!
Not another transport but something for combatants.
So I ask, Has the Dev Team killed the Barge off or has something replaced it?
I have a sneaky suspicion that if it has been killed off then so have many players who rely on this ship across all disco servers.

The staff made an announcement about it here. This has been a planned change for over a year now and only recently put in. Barges were changed to the Bustard Carrier, a civilian liner with capital ship specs.

I believe one of the main reasons for the change is that the barge hardly added anything to the mod and caused more problems that it was worth.

Make a character and file a unique ship request for one. It's the only way you'll get it back.

Well I have been trying to gauge the impact of this across the whole Disco Server community. It would seem that some servers relied on the barge and many players with barge dependent enterprises have deserted the game.
Perhaps someday another large cargo carrying transport could enter the game.

Ironically, the barge it was removed from mod at the moment when majority of these problems were gone. It was great tool for powertraders long time ago, then got nerfed by speed. After jump trading was introduced, it became powertrader´s wet dream once again. Then jumptrading was nerfed by cargo restriction and lately also by jumping distance.

So before current removal, it was speed nerfed jumbo ship which could not be used for jumptrading, was annoying to fly due to all time bumps from NPCs and most reasonable use was additional storage space of POB but for incredible price of billions of credits. When came to cargo transporting, it was faster and easier to make several 5k train runs instead of one barge run. However some players still liked to fly it because of that feeling of steering the supertanker. It was cool.
