As Spazzy stated, FL and Disco aren't very suitable for competitive play.

Lemme quote Golly on this:
[0:07:12] Michał Golański: when learning basics in competitive gaming, you're competitive if you are good teamplayer
[0:07:20] Michał Golański: in disco, at this level you're still cannon fodder

Now this wouldn't be a problem per se. Disco has always been like that, a few people can kill all others. However that should not have any consequences. This is a roleplay server but you can't roleplay being good or bad at PvP, yet it would be utter nonsense if all your characters, from a veteran navy pilot to a civilian in his first ship would somehow have the exact same skill.

Yes this is a spaceshooter, but if that's all it is to someone that person could've just played another server, mod or vanilla or even better an entirely different game. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy PvP too. PvP is fun, it's good. Shooting is roleplay too yeah. But having it dictate roleplay would make things ridiculous and absurd and hinder the other side of Disco.

So no. You are not entitled to win. What happens in PvP would usually be completely laughable if translated literally into RP.

I just figure that Players are the 1% of badass pilots that exist in space. Like, most players could take on legions of NPCs without a sweat. It's when they meet another Ace (see: player) that the thing becomes an issue.

Also, if you're bad at PvP, you can just forum RP more I guess. Like I try to do.

EDIT: Also, in-game PvP has literally nothing to do with the storyline, most of the time. Remember KNF vs BAF? Like that mattered. Storyline > PvP.

EDIT2: Except for Storyline events, I suppose. Even then, they're mostly scripted out.

I want to get off Mr. Igiss' wild ride.

Depends on your definition of 'win'. Usualy if I get some good RP interactions it's a win for me even if I get blasted in the end, but for some win includes ruining the other guy's day.

Self restraint self enforcement. a community that polices itself? it has all failed. its a running failure.

If you.. think these statements are wrong.. I digress i didn't say such a thing couldn't run. or even be fun by comparison but its about as fun as meatballs in your fruitloops.

A game that's built as a role play game is more suited for roleplay period. I submit to you neverwinter nights 1 and 2 servers especially the persistent worlds.. made by the community. with many more tools and abilities to script almost anything you need. versus backwards hacking freelancer to add ships and makes rules enforced by honor alone.

So frankly. shortcomings aside and philosophy be damned. You kill a guy who can respawn in five seconds or come back and try and kill you back in an hour... yeah have at it.. ENJOY your victory..

for what its worth.

now as for the base suplyers we all do it from time to time but i am talking abougth the hard core do not come up for air for 5 - 25 hrs at a time suplyers of wich i am one it realy sucks when you break up a chain that has been running that long it leave you feeling angry whith a "how dare you" feeling

This thread is going nowhere, it's another discussion of PvP vs RP with so much different opinions it's impossible to come to a solution.

Which is odd, because this is not what the OP intended.

The overarching question there was whose interests we protect? The people who have honed their skills and want a balanced system to show them off, where skill actually matters and where they can come out on top during player vs player combat? But if so, players who lack said skill want to feel protected or at least given a chance to either: 1) not get involved or 2) have an equal opportunity to escape without becoming a blue or 3) fly ships which are pvp compatible and with a (relatively) low skill requirement.

Which side are we protecting now? Which side is Disco built around?

PSA: If you have been having stutter/FPS lag on Disco where it does not run as smoothly as other games, please look at the fix here: https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...pid2306502

I think it's a false contradiction. It's easy to stay out of fights. People can join factions for protection. Fly in numbers. I always wanted to be someone's henchman but no one ever took me up on that offer. In fact, whenever I fight bads I let them attack me first (usually). Some of the most PVP- and gank-eager players are bads with cloaks and torps/missiles. They are the same people that will rather crash into zone-21's defences or suicide on their own mines. Try making an unlawful ship with a nub-like name and dangle it in front of 5th and watch the frenzy. I think this problem solely exist in the minds of bads, and that they are really the only ones who have issues with giving out their blue.
