I almost cant remember but this reminded me. About five years ago, there was a RP where Rheinland and Cryer experimented with animal genetics in order to make a better solider. Faster reflexes, better instincts and a good way to get Cryer into a Roleplay. All I can remember is Daniel Artura. He started this and never thought of him as a "furry." One thing a Furry will never say is that it's a mind set. For example.
I love Star Trek. I can quote lines, geek talk techno babble and characters and which cpatain is the best (Benjamin Sisko is by the way,). How ever. I will never...ever...EVER, get dressed up or RP one or act out a part. and this is as close to it as I'll get.
The character of Daniel never struck me as a "furry." He never came across anything more than a Rheinlander, genetically altered to be a better solider. His role play was spot on, he didn't toss his tail in your face and to his character, it was another reason to prove himself on the server.
However, when players start making it more....how can I put it without offending anyone....In your face I'm a furry and if you dont like it your a (add expressive explosive terms here). Yea. I don't like it either. It's when the universe needs to conform to the character and not the character try to fit into the universe where it becomes irritating. What doesn't help is when the player takes the same mindset to the forums. You're not privileged or the oppressed minority furries. Pick up a shovel and get to work like the rest of us.
Now Anime. Now I'm old school Anime. Force Five, Star Vengers, Giking, Battle of the planets and so on. What I'm getting here on this thread, is the same psudo furry vibe from the anime players. And Niko niko what ever, players?
Does anyone here remember the Ori faction who went around blowing people up with zoner tech? It may have worked on another server or universe but just was an excuse to have the universe conform to them and again, not the other way around. And I dare say, there is a heavy sexual element involved in the overt Anime thing here too? I glanced at some RP communications and wish I didn't. My point is, ...who are they...Lobster and a few others had "anime" images but never tossed it in your face, so to speak. Again, they use an image, made a believable character and made it work in the disco universe.
Furries, Anime, Niko, Ori...I know there are folks only reading half of what I'm saying and the rest may not be seeing what I'm getting at. Any of these are fine. Be a what ever...but does it really fit here? In Disco? Why should this universe even allow your existence? Are you here for the community or to make the community accept what ever you vomited onto a piece of paper? Are there ways to have the same character but alter it so I'm not flying around Omega 7 and jumping into Full Metal Alchemist? See what I'm saying?
