they are not THAT slow as to want to waste time flying back and forth to a base. especially if you are out in the open.
Having another ship that's capable of doing damage is much more useful than a glorified repair ship, though.
Then why not just get a battleship instead of a carrier if you want more damage?
It's like saying in FPS games that the medic should not be played since more fire power is better.
Exactly my point. If you get a battleship instead of a carrier every time because it's more viable, then what reason do carriers have to exist?
Name me an FPS game that has bases you can dock at to fully heal and get regens to heal yourself 2-3 times over.
I think carrier should be able to take more punishment compared to battleships. It should have 2-3 Heavy Guns in every direction like Mortars etc. and the rest only Flak cannons. It also should be bigger than a battleship.

Nope if its carrying heavy guns then its a battleship not a carrier.your idea would be good for heavy battleships but definetly not for carrier.

Carriers should be carriers, not massive toys with more firepower than they need.

Carriers meant to be support ships, launch (ai controlled?) fighters or bombers to hit hostile ships. I think that is impossible to do with FL Mechanism.
It is possible to add NPCs which are launching from your ship, but it's very diffcult to do. If I remember well TOW had something like this.

No, carriers shouldn't work this way. IMHO they aren't meant to have good firepwoer against big stuff. If you speak about repairing ships, it should be avaible only to Repair Ships.
Strip all BS Heavy turrets then add a special razor available to all carriers (heavy carriers uses 2 mediums and lights use 1) faster firing razors
then give them perma Docking Modules and let them launch NPC fighter/bombers(yes we need bombers) (TOW made a thing like that)
Eh. Let's face it, everyone has a varied opinion and while a change would be nice - there is always a limiting factor that would make the ship less used and things worse than they already are. The Liberty Carrier for example, has two heavy slots and is massive. Frankly if you lose in a battleship, even a Light battleship then personally your aim must be broken. A Carrier is a -Big- target. With the exception of possibly the Rheinland carrier, but then nobody uses them very often in favour of their heavy battleship - again, a big target. Their anti-battleship strength isn't as good as say a Liberty Dreadnought for arguments sake. So really, the balancing for weapons is fine the way it is, in my opinion. It keeps a nice variation of ships to choose from. If you want to take on Battleships and other capital ships - The Liberty Dreadnought in this case can probably handle them fairly well with exception of lighter cruisers and gunboats. The Carrier can only really cope with cruisers and below because of it's many Secondary turrets so really, right now for the purposes of Support, if a Dreadnought and Carrier were in a team versus a variety of things, I.e Outcast Dreadnought and a Scylla. The Scylla would probably quite happily dodge the fire of the Dreadnought at range and it's meagre amount of secondaries wouldn't put a scratch in it, where as the Carrier has so many Secondaries the Scylla would need to stay well out of range of those. Point is I believe the weaponry balance is fine depending on the person flying it and the perspective you look at it. - Though as a side note it would be nice to give carriers some other purpose such as the AI fighter idea. But even WW2 aircraft carriers I believe, even though this is space, had some sort of Artillery cannon, in this case heavy weaponry which accompanied it's Secondaries (Flak, Secondaries etc.)

Your completely ignoring the other carriers lel. The Atlantis can take more hits and deal close to the same amount of damage, all carriers can be used as battleships.

There is only 2 heavy carriers that are -Big- target. Dont forget geb and zephyr theh are really overpowered and better than any battleship so remove heavy turrets from carriers. Also ww2 aircraft carriers had really weak artillery weapon that cant even hit or destroy cruiser or destroyer.
Removing heavies from carriers could be interesting. In exchange for that, ramp up their secondary slot count and double/triple the number of docking modules they have - combine that with the carrier update and we could have real carriers.
