I'm not terrified by some blue half-brother of a silent trader that has Cruiser guns. I'm annoyed that he just blows up people for no reason. Hooray, now they have to stay out of the system until the Nomad stops his rampage. Great.
How would you feel if you were just flying around, you found a cool guy to RP with, and then he just explodes? Or you explode? Or both of you do? Oh, sorry. If both of you do, you can just come back like it never happened. Because that makes a lot of sense and it's totally not annoying at all.
Phantom actually makes an excellent point here. Compare things to horror movies. Horror movies where there's some spooky murderer who's constantly expectedly jumping from corners to get a victim isn't really that scary. Maybe at first it'll make people jump, but after a while it loses the fear, then it becomes predictable, then tedious, and eventually you just stop watching the movie or no longer find it interesting.
Has anyone seen The Shining? If you haven't, go watch it. Terror isn't thrown at your face constantly, it's built up with good degrees of subtly and released at appropriate moments in appropriate doses. The movie makes you feel very uncomfortable when you watch it, and does make you quite terrified. Yet you find yourself unable to turn away due to how well the movie hooks you in.
Whilst I can appreciate scary Nomads, and I love how Huggie is going to make them go raiding again and I can't wait to brawl with Noms again, I think K'Hara should be wary of how they achieve this. It's best to ensure people have the greatest possible experience when RPing with Noms, whether that is being terrified or discussing the topic of humanity with them.
First yes. terror/horror is an art. only really good writing can ensnare the senses enough to get
but let's apply this to the tools khara has and what we all have in the mod. In a way there are limits on our time and availability online and really khara do not communicate effectively.. we have a goofy language. one that for lack of a better alternative is unique and easy to get ahold of and yes sometimes i guess.......can only guess... what the guys are saying.
Frankly if i was an admin and i saw an alien race like this with any other id i would have serious issues with its rp .. and communicating telepathically.
essentially in the game nomad ships didnt even so much as peep and it all came from the infected speaking. and that one weird dude in the bar in rhineland...that.. everyone was completely ok with........
So.. there's a lot of room for improvement. Right now there are basic language and role play guides for beginners in our forum section. but it will be expanded possibly adding a vocabulary of common symbols and words we would use for simplicity sake. but this will take time.
BUT I WILL PROMISE YOU THIS. I am working on extended lore and maybe more... options to narrate khara more effectively.. but that's as far as we CAN possibly go.
Lyths right.. you will get used to us. you're going to get used to nomads being around and our rp... so.. frankly.. i can only draw one conclusion .
We weren't scary enough for you now? we wont ever be. call it desensitising or.. just your personal perspective.
but your... loss at our hands.. our terror campaign.. et all.. results will vary. were prepared for that.
which.. frankly. it wont be that long and itll be over. and you can all go back to complaining about important things like patches. and nabs.
Huggie, I think you are missing the point here on what people are complaining about. We understand that it's difficult (and in-rp often not making sense) to RP with literally everyone you plan to have a brawl with, especially with the nomspeak available.
The issue is that K'Hara seems to have taken a tactic of uncloaking behind an enemy ship and spamming it with cap weapons for an instakill without a chance to resist. It's not related to roleplay much, it's more of a matter of K'Hara frequently making someone get a GAME OVER screen out of the blue without anything preceding it.
Would you like to play a singleplayer game, where at any point of the game you have a chance to get a boss spawn right behind you and kill you with an 95% sure to hit move in a single hit?
This is not terror. Be aggressive, scary and everything you want. Don't blue people by uncloaking behind them and murdering them blatantly without a sign. Should we fear K'Hara because they pose a threat to our character's lives or should we fear them because they can lolwut destroy us at any point and bring an end to any RP progress going on? It's not promoting feeling scared of noms, it's promoting the idea that they're lolwuts and out for blues / feed off s.a.l.t. of other players.
You will not be scary, bring terror if the only time we learn about your presence roleplay-wise is when our characters are -already- dead.
I agree that K'Hara should be scary and sometimes attack without prior RP but what i can't understand is attacking same area or same targets several times
This might cause some annoyance to some players. Anyway, good luck with this new style and have fun

I see no reason why Admins shouldn't slap all K'hara players for that. But, that's my opinion.
Also, not that I like to argue, but such an action (as underlined above) is a serious violation of the server rules. Rule 1.7, according to which powergaming is against rules.
Quote:**Powergaming: When one character forces actions against another player without giving them the chance to respond, affecting and/or interfering with the other characters roleplay.
