The other day I was fleeing from a pursuing gunboat, both of us at cruise speed, he was around 2k away from me. I engine killed, spun around (while maintaining cruise speed due to the ill), and launched a few disruptors at him to kill his cruise so I could get away.
To me that seems like a tactic and good use of ship capabilities. He could have fired a CD at me (if i was in range, so was he) to stop my drifting, but by the time my disruptor hit he wasnt able to get back in range.
That's illegal. Since you were cruising first (you said you were fleeing, right?) that counts as re-engagement, since the pursuer has to open fire first when both have engaged cruise.
Unless Serval used Thruster and EK to flee, the other person was maintaining the engagement, since Serval lost the engagement the moment he engaged cruise. At that point, the victor has every right to pursue Serval using any means necessary.
Thus, Serval is perfectly within bounds of the rules to turn around and fire a CD.
EDIT:
Why is this thread nearly 11 pages now? Read the rules. If it isn't crystal clear, don't do it. There's no point in going around, looking for loopholes or exemptions.

Johnny_Haas: why you shoot criuse speed rockets?
After looking at the situation again, I believe you are right. Thanks for clarifying, though I probably won't do it anyway since it seems a little bit like bad sportsmanship to my personal code.
Anyway, our friendly neighborhood demonic stray is right, as usual- this thread has gone on for too long. If it doesn't die now, I highly recommend a chubb mode...
