If the risk is deemed okay, I would definitely do it the "Spazzy way".
Game files + Mod.
One packet for easy download and installation.

This could be a major thing in our small community.

If I recall, didn't ModDB remove us from their site because of an extremely minor copyright infraction, reported to them by a disgruntled banned player. How would they view it, if we were to take the action proposed in this thread? If Microsoft came down on us, who exactly would they approach? Igiss? Does he have an opinion? There are other questions that would need answering as well. Does this put the very existence of the mod at risk? Does the risk outweigh the reward?

It would be cool to see Disco standalone, much like BF2's project reality.

Funny you would mention that.
This suggestion actually came from my recent reinstalling of PR, when I found out it was standalone now.

Though the thing with PR is that EA wouldn't have minded so much because PR used to drive the sales of BF2 at the time.

PSA: If you have been having stutter/FPS lag on Disco where it does not run as smoothly as other games, please look at the fix here: https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...pid2306502

problem is, is whilst it still can be bought somewere at any price, it would not be able to be included in a FREE mod conversion

Just a thought: maybe some minor changes should be done in MOD installer
- with could be run in two alternative versions:

1. Standalone - soundless, both character voices and ingame-music (which is probably protected by copyright)
since there is plenty soundtrack music modes lack of music should not be a problem.

2. Full - for original ISO owners, where character voices and original music is uploaded from original game

The problem with moddb was due a picture being hosted in the moddb gallery containing an icon from EVE Online. CCP Games never said anything, it's just this one russian kid that somehow convinced the moddb staff there was a huge copyright drama that was going to happen. All it took was a PM to Moddb's big boss and the mod was restored an hour later.

All in all, a good idea. If Microsoft *does* notice, we get their attention. Which is good.
One the one hand we get new players that have an easier time installing.
On the other it could have issues. But nothing we cant get past, +1 has my vote Big Grin

It might be worth sending them an email concerning Freelancer and the legality of issuing it out.

You might want to get in touch of the /highers/ of Microsoft Studios about it, especially if they're not responding/and how it's mentioned they taken down their store page for it. Granted, it's not a popular game, but if you can cause an uproar on social media - somehow, they might notice it.

Actually a good idea. You could send an email stating to reply within a given time or you can cause an uproar.....
