Is it possible to change the distance at which npc's spawn?

I tend to play at times of low server usage and having 2 GRN cruiser groups appear together 2k away i not my idea of fun. What's the point in having a scanner with a 12k range? At best it's a PITA, at worst, it makes the game almost unplayable.

I was playing the other day when 14 players were on and had a GRN battleship appear right on top of me, insta-firing. Dead before I could do a thing. Cargo which I'd spent ages accumulating gone. Yay!

I can't see any logical reason as to why the limit should be as it is, but perhaps I'm missing something.

Anyone else?

If you are hostile to certain factions, you are not supposed to be one's space (I believe that's Leeds in your case). Cruising away and evading would do a thing.

P.S. You don't alt-tab in hostile space. Taking some bribes is a solution, if you are trader.

Cruising away isn't an option with Gb or above - they have CDs.

Who mentioned ALT-TAB? The npc ships spawn within firing range.

All gunboat NPCs have up to 3 CDs. It's not an issue and I created such a thread two years ago, being explained it goes this and that.

In short: bribe or don't go space in which you are sure there are hostile heavy patrols - they are there for a reason, advice from me. ^_^

When the player count is low.

Toris. can i just say that your replies and advice are quite dense and ridiculous and here's why:

1. Some people in the world can only make good playtime when the server is quiet. There's a thing called timezones, you know.

2. saying 'dont go into space when you are sure there are hostile heavy patrols' would close off large tracts of sirius (depending on a variety of factors like affiliation, actions and plans) which is extremely counterproductive to people being able to do what they want i.e trading, being an unlawful, in some cases being a lawful.

3. Almost every house system, along with a slew of other systems, spawn these 'hostile heavy patrols'. What maddox is suggesting (i assume) is that the spawn distance for powerful NPCs be increased so you dont get instaderped by NPC patrols who spawn at point blank.

IMO its a reasonable suggestion. He's not asking for them to be removed.

@Sabru
I'm replying with what I was told so far, that's not my personal opinion. My personal opinion would be: "remove capital ship patrols and increase NPC number".

I know what exactly op is pointing out . Since i am to in time zone when server is mostly low visited , i take LABC and go to some NPC Valor hunting in Leeds or Dundee , but it is not exactly fun when Valor +4 Gunboats Spawn 2 k in front of you , You only can engage cruise and move out of range , but you are certain to lose half of bits in process ( if you are lucky , since they CD you ) , and ONLY then when you are out of range , you can start "fair fight" against Valor when he is not at point blank range .
It Would be better that ( at least BS patrol ) spawn some 5000 k from you , so you can have time for normal tactic .

It is even worse when you fly with transport ( smuggler or law ) in un-friendly space ( sometimes you are just force to go in to unfriendly/hostile space , and sometimes system is not hostile , but there are hostile patrols in system ) , and couple of gunboats spawn around you .

If I remember well, the distance where NPC spawn is defined by FL mechanics and can't be changed. I can be wrong tho. The only way to avoid it is decreasing cap range to 2k or below, which isn't a good idea for sure.
Or removing cap patrols at all, which could be a better idea... But still not the most neat if you ask me

EDIT:

Naaah, sentinel cm + cms on auto + buying CMs on the closest docking facility worked fine with me. Sentinel is the toy I love. 170 CMs could help you to fly across the hostile space and dock at the nearest base. You know, a bit of risk Wink
