1) the bustard is a support ship. You cannot solo stuff with it unless you are really good... Really good.
But you can have a cloak, 5 docking models, and a jumpdrive all in one to compensate for that. That is pretty cool if you ask me. What I find is that people complain that it is useless but do not take the time to think of ways to use it. In my experiences it is a great utility ship.

2) there were only several barges on server and the admins were either not giving out more or really reluctant to. Why would you want something you would never have when you can have something that is openly accessible.
Barges were really abused with motifs of power trading. People that flew them didn't care for rp. Find me a barge that rped. Plz.

Fully agree with that. Barges were really good ships. But maybe make them a bit smaller so they could enter trade lanes. Same speed, but more manuver ability (Because of NPC always turns you around. And for base supply that ship is just perfect.

I vote for bringing barges back. But a bit smaller, more monuver ability, they could enter Trade lanes, and look otherwize =).

Just, no. no, no, no, no.

I'm with nommy on this one. Once docking mods get sorted out properly, the bustard will come into its own special place.

For those complaining about the bustard's combat abilities:

well duh, it's a civilian ship and a carrier. It's not supposed to be taking down most things by itself. dont be continually misled by the 'carriers by name, but quasi-BSes by nature' military faction carriers. It's a utility ship, if you want pew-pew power, get a proper direct combat ship.

Seriously, the bustard is the only cap in the game actually worthy of being called a proper carrier (by primary use and design)

It does make you wonder though...
Why did the barge have to get removed? Couldn't the bustard have just been introduced alongside it? The bustard was supposed to be a replacement (implying it'd retain some characteristics of the barge) but both ships are HUGELY (literally and non-literally) different.

I said this months ago in my review of the Bustard on the wiki.
The subtle influence continues.

Once POB's were introduced , the only legit RP reason (imho) for the Barge ceased to exist. The Barge was never intended to be used as a trade ship, and the Admin's/Devs tried to discourage the use of it as such. When jump drives were introduced, we entered the Golden Age of powertraders, where billions of credits could be 'earned' in a single day. Although that era is gone (thank God), I see no good reason to justify returning the Barge to the ship it once was, nor creating a similar type of ship with a cargo hold greater than our 5kers.

Unless...

Unless you wish to remove POB's from the mod. Then I could see reimplementing the Barge, but only if you remove its capacity to fly. The choice would be, either a POB you have to constantly maintain, or a 40k storage facility that required no maintenance at all and could be F1'd in space, assuming no hostiles were nearby.

According to your words... What if we merge both things to get an POB with 40k or a bit more cargo space, which would require no maintenance? This way we could get pretty good outpost for RP stuff (and docking shelter) with weaker defence possibilities than the current pob, but it would require no maintenance.
