There is another RP server i play on in GMod, which enforces name guidelines so strictly that you can get banned for 240 hours just for not having a normal name. Im in favor of stricter enforcement of that specific rule, but dont make it too extreme.
But bear in mind that admins also have lives and other stuff they do besides enforcing discovery rules.
This Galaxy is vast; its wonders and beauty are almost unfathomable. But the galaxy also hides dark secrets, some of which have lain dormant since the beginning of time itself. There is a danger in secrets, both in seeking and in knowing. Some things are meant to be hidden from view. Some mysteries defy understanding, and sometimes even the things we think we know are untrue. Some secrets should remain untouched.
Eh, we used to have our wee memes back in the days too, Spazzy. The thing is, back then, Discovery was one community among the Freelancer community, not a splinter of several smaller circle of friends, each with their own backgrounds.

It is stupid to expect people to change their attitude even if the admins suddenly decide to enforce the very rules that they have written regarding forum conduct and ingame behavour, but if that is the case, we might as well drop the, personally opinion, outright foolish pretense of a RP community and open the server for a much broader demographic. Most RP-loving people need a serious enviroment they can immerse themselves in, without a feeling that all of the community are sitting in the background, rolling their eyes at their RP posts. As the person mentioned, it seems that Discovery Freelancer is a "Ironic" portray of a Roleplay community. That we might as well drop the act. If anything, it will at least generate activity.
Thank you for stating it again. I fully and wholeheartedly agree. Either RP is taken seriously as a concept, or we drop it. The current status is not helping anyone, and drives people of both camps (Hardcore RPers and Hardcore PvPers) away.

You know what's gonna happen - people will be like "Hey, let's all rename our ships!" and then they'll find a reason/excuse like "cba, I'll do it tomorrow." while eventually forgotting to rename, and we're back at the beginning.

Even though - and I quote here, this is not my own opinion - the admin team would never let me have access to the desk, I would gladly spend the time to read through however many tens of thousands of characters exist on the server and change their names. Seriously, its gotten ridiculous. Noob names like peter157 or whatever are one thing, they don't know any better, but there's no excuse for meme names.
