So, Light Fighters.
The ship type that was given as an answer to a problem which we do not have right now and never really had.

The ship type that has seen more tampering with than even Gunboats.



Right now, there is almost no reason to fly these ships due to how they perform in fights. Their concept of being a highly evasive ship is all fine and dandy, until you realize that the point of a combat ship is to - in the end - deal damage. The thought of going into a group fight with the notion of ''look at all the people who can't hit me'' is all fine and dandy until you realize that due to the fact that the LFs do not allow for mistakes in the world where a Nukemine is the norm, their lack of sustained firepower is really a huge turnoff.

The only factions that actively employ these things are police IDs, who are just sort of..expected to.



There was a relatively recent attempt to give these ships a burst-fighter esque makeover, which only ended up being recalled due to how such a change impacts a fight with multiple LFs present. But now they are back at square one.

Support ships do not work in Discovery. Every player is expected to deal damage and the light fighter as it is right now, does not really allow for that. Could it be possible to give them, at least, a larger powerplant so that their damage can be sustained for longer periods of time. Or perhaps a specific gun type that is mounted in the CD slot, like that gatling gun thing that people were talking abut at some point.

Otherwise right now the LF is less useful than a battleship.

I would like a super high fire rate, forward mounted rotary cannon on a LF. Give it the fighter feel it needs. Although...I feel that it would need to be fixed like most of the foward cannons like the Liberty Seige Cruiser and the Gallic Valor flagship.

If I could have a LF with a forward rotary cannon, I would buy it and use it extensively.

It's a pretty damn good LF, it can deal damage, perform the evasive maneuvers, even deal a lot of damage in right hands. You don't have to be a pr0mlgn0sp0p3p3w3r to make some blues with it. Yes, it has scales of Labraid, which is HF, but it's fast as hell.

They are useful, but you need to sink in perhaps a bit too much money for said usefulness.

I can kill average player while in LF (guns only), but I can't kill good players no matter what I fly.

If LFs could outrun boxers then they will get their advantage.

LF are plainly annoying when you fight them (LOL LOL LOL, u no caz hitz meee!!!), and useless when they fight on your side. Having a LF on your team in a groupfight is like having -1 member on your team, plus 40 surprise bots for the enemy team because at some point the stray nuke -will- hit.

LFs are cool for racing.
And... that's it.

How to fix? I seriously have no idea because the concept "ultradodgy + small model" is a total fail approach in Disco.

Light fighters are a glass cannon. Glass breaks easily when you're shooting it with cannonballs. They're not easy to balance out, because most buffs would make them unbeatable.

Tweaking the thrust speed up to 220 is probably the way to go. Light fighters are best when handled by someone with reflexes, might as well buff that.

Jack has a point here. For the sake of brainstorm we could try to define the new characteristics for this class. This costs almost no effort, so why not?

Tbh, when i came back, i looked at the guns stats of LF's and i lulzed on how an LF could hit harder than an HF. And learning how to dodge and have a spatial awareness to mines is way easier than learning on how to deal damage.

IMO, increase HF cruise speed, and delete LF's all together. Problem solved.
