Yo,

A long time since I have put my honest weird logic at the community, but regarding the latest drama about PRIME engaging 5vs1 a single vessel right at their home resulting the community fighting each other once again in a huge drama.
Of course, showing that there is probably a major dissatisfaction going on.

Even it wasn't very much intented in the OP within the PRIME feedback of @Laz , it had very quick gone down to a RP>PvP - RP<PvP conflict.

So, where are we? The banner of us is "Discovery 24/7 RP Community". Even though I support @Lythrilux perspective that the major aspect playing the game should be "Having fun" and players should also care about it, it doesn't change the fact that any fun MUST be located within a Roleplaying environment. Of course, PvP has the same value as RP does, but PvP requires the RP justification to take place. The only alternative we have here is logging into Conn.

So, where does it all start? Where does the fun start or does it end?

First thing and that is the very very very first point of having fun wihin a roleplaying environment is.

Respect your virtual life.

As long as you don't RP a suicidal or insane character any focus should first be your own virtual life. Exactly this would had been the point, when I had been a player in PRIMEs position at this 5vs1 encounter that I had lost fun, because the indiviual facing me right at my homeworld, who inRP should be eradicated within a second if neccessary, doesn't respect roleplaying his own situation he was into and the whole situation overall. Would it be better if there had spawned 100000 AI NPCs instead of 5 players for having a sufficient RP immersion? Not at all, because the result would had been the same.

So as long as you don't start to respect and finally accept that this is a RP environment (It is your virtual life, you have to care of it) you won't have fun here and I swear any encounter you have won't do aswell. Take the final decission by yourself.

I once created this basic scheme to show, how discovery should be in some way to the point of systemcreation, but it could also be reduced to "How a single system should work by itself"

Any region which is flagged "Discovery" is entirely meant to be or possibly is a danger zone within RP. Basically peaceful interaction should and can mostly take place at neutral locations or only by invitation.

I agree the game needs to be fun and fair, and it can be in any other encounter, but showing up at the home planet of a *hostile* foreign group and then refusing to leave should not earn you a fair fight, its one of those systems where you have to think what a real group would do.

For example.

If a country starts sending planes through an uneasy countries airspace, they will be told to leave. If those planes refuse to leave, lets say in this example a lone plane... If that plane refuses to leave, because you have antagonized a country that doesnt like you, and you are in THEIR space. You don't deserve a fair fight, you need to get shot down so you're no longer a threat.

The same should apply in Disco. If a fight is in whatever neutral territory, it should be a fair fight because nobody will send all their forces into a fight away from home base so they don't waste resources. If the fight is at home base they have a lot more resources, and will do everything in their power to repel you because you are a THREAT in their HOME.

I'm not trying to start any arguments, its just my two cents from my own thoughts on it.

You can't gank a ship that can turret zoom.

Everyone should take a few minutes to read this post before going further. Sums up my opinion on the topic.

let's see how much fun you have while being shot at by 10 sabres 1v10.

while im at it i might ask the devs to get us some aim cheats, we roleplay pro fighters so that should reflect in the game right?

Let's not forget that while "having fun" is okay and nice and cool, but having fun at the expense of others is not. Let's not ignore all those who came to this server seeing "RP" in it's name and were expecting RP when they came here either. Find some consensus, shall we?

How about expect fair fights in neutral space and cry rivers once you got ganked there only, for the sake of enjoyable PvP, and attempt to strike at anyone's home systems or home bases without any expectations of such kind, for the sake of enjoyable RP? To me it sounds like a fair trade, nothing like "I gank you wherever I want because that makes sense inRP" or "I expect a fair fight even inside of your home, because I'm here to have fun, not to lose", rather something in between the two. What do you think?

EDIT: This thread seems to be a good one to have a serious discussion in, and possibly find a solution to an issue which has been dividing the community for a while. May I ask the Moderator Team to watch over and remove any stupidity, trolling or derail attempt which may appear in the future?

I happen to subscribe to Antonio's view on the matter with a few caveats. Thing is though, and I've said this many many times here, you can't change how other people play the game. The only person's actions you can dictate are your own. At the end of the day the whole roleplay vs gameplay argument comes down to opinion, and all you can do to deal with someone whose belief is that you should throw as much force at the enemy as possible is to come prepared.
