That is actually a nice design, but it looks small. I recommend you to contact Soul so he can give you his 3D modelling programme and teach you how to use it.

I use blender. But today I think that I don't have more time for a model...

Here is a little reminder about the design and characteristics of bretonian ships.

On the first glance they usually come about as heavy. While not being too large - they do certainly "feel" large. The destroyer and gunboat are both kind of wide and tall - compared to lets say - the liberty ships that are rather long or the rheinland ships that are rather thin and tall.

But try to look at them another time. The battleship is not supermassive. Head/chin and neck are quite skeletal - the engine compartment is almost fragile. Same thing with the destroyer - it is rather sleek. (we must take into account that the "chin" frame is probably rather a replacable module. So the destroyer itself is that sleek body with the multi-tasking connection to attach a weapons-pod in the front.

This image shows how elegant the whole thing is meant to look like (its from the concept art of freelancer)

It is very round, not at all littered in ribs or other stuff. The armor plating is elaborate and rather form fitting.

The models suggested (so far) are a bit too blunt - too simple. I do know that they are supposed to be simple due to the war and scarce resources - but they do not quite fit the bretonian design idea.

Also - Bretonian engines are MUCH smaller than liberty engines. Not only are they able to place them much more flexible over the ships hulls - but it would be rather strange if the engine block suddenly made up 30% of the ships mass.

+1 to what Jinx said.

For those trying to make bretonian ships - you should know some more important details in order the models to be "closer to vanila design" and more bretonian.

I will add few more details. Bretonian design is a "platform" carrier model - where the ship consist of small body with frontal bridge (gunboat/destroyer share same layout for the bridge), small engine (all bret engines share similarities) and a "platform". Overall the ship (no matter of the class) must look like it carries a huge platform. Perhaps you might wonder "why these platforms? What is so much to be carried?" Well in vanilla bretonian ships are only ones to carry huge guns (using razor animation) aka rail guns. So I guess from designer's point of view - the ship simply is unable to mount these giant guns and to make it easier these platforms were created.

-Gunboat: Giant wings/Fins exist to carry 2 massive rail guns. Currently in disco that ship is broken cuz it is not balanced according to its original design.
-Destroyer: Its most obvious ship with a platform which was supposed to feature "rotation" but possibly due to the engine limitations that was never added in the game. Nevertheless - the ship is also sleek and sharing gunboat similarities. The giant platform is supposed to carry 2x battleship vanila rail gun turrets and 1 more at the rear. (that ship if balanced according to its original design would be most op in the game)
- Battleship: Both the "head" and the body part carrying the engine are to be considered "platforms" as well as the "middle wheel"/reactor segment. In vanila game - the only turrets using "rail gun" animation (battle razor) are those located at the reactor - "wheel" part and the top of the head - these are considered "primary turrets".

So the conclusion is the vanila bretonian ships (current cap line) have such strange models only because of the massive rail guns they were supposed to carry. That is why they have platforms where these weapons to be placed. A model to look bretonian must have all these similarities - frontal bridge/smaller sleek body/platform/round small engines.

Now about a bretonian "carrier" design - things are slightly more complicated since such a ship does not exist in vanila but there are some images of a possible carrier with bretonian origin located in the bonus cd.

Before 2 years I've tried to make a rough model - for fun - just to see how this would look like:

Not very "modern" at all.

Soul's current model is cool. I hope he is working on it to make it better and textured Smile

PS: @Unlucky_Soul If you have the time could you try to make that model below just so we can see how it looks like?

It look nice and have all features of the breotnian designs. "1" and "2" are hangar tubes - yes frontal....but it somehow looks strong and very armored. It does share some slight similarities with the kirk - only the head. It lacks "body" like we've seen so far from your models and the actual dunkirk. That one have "classic" body covered with shell armor and the engines at the rear looks cool. I do believe this could turn in to a nice model. Give it a try Wink

I'd like a vacuum cleaner screaming "For Bretonia" too. A vacuum cleaner.

I like the work on the engine. I hope that it is finished and that you can start working on improving the amount of detail. Firstly, the windows on the stern seem too big and while I know that textures would solve that, their size reduces detail and if you look at the windows of Bretonian caps, you'll always see them in a single row. I'm rather for making more small windows there and on the sides of the head. Maybe in front of the wheels too. If the number of polys is alright.
