Spazzy, care reading my response hopefully not lost between your e-peen brawl about who were absent when, for how long, how many years of experience and accumulated posts you have and whatever crap unrelated to the topic you brought here?

I did read it, but there was no need to comment on it, because you yourself already stated what matters - it is all a matter of perspective.

Back to the point...

It's been nearly 10 days since Tunicle said the Admins were not ignoring the Community's posts and were discussing it. Safe to say, all the discussions should be discussed by now and if there were any changes to the initial decision, they would have been announced. I'm sure the Admins would tell you about their concerns on ddos attacks on the server, which is a legit concern. But, there is also the fact that they probably don't want to open up the huge can of worms again with another announcement stating what they have already decided some time ago. As far as the dev strike, my guess is that the admins decided they could live without you. It's probably up to each individual dev whether he wants to quit or continue helping at this point. It would be a shame to see most of you go, but the choice is yours.

Actually I liked Canon's method of handling staff that weren't working. If they were silent and uninvolved for too long he'd simply turn off/change password to their accounts associated with the various tools and then kick them out of the chat. I've seen many volunteers come and go for all sorts of reasons during my time on staff. None have the power to hold the server hostage and none should ever have that.

Has anybody taken note of how much useless drama is in this thread?

You have a thread, written by your dev's. Who have gone on strike... And this is how ya'll respond to it???

You gotta be kidding me..

-_-

Cannon just rose to a new level of respect in my books right now.

I was waiting for the weekend, but slowly I find it harder and harder to not think "they might be just trying to wait for it to go away".

I do hope that's not the strategy because it will not go away.

Staff asked for some breathing space to have a discussion.
Even the most patient will say by now that enough time was given.

Therefore, I would say it is time for a statement.
This insecurity is causing a lot of damage still.

I agree, it does seem the admins have pushed this issue to the side. However, I don't think their strategy is "slide it under the rug". Because of the amount of activity they've had in Conn recently and the event in Magellan, I'm getting the feeling that their strategy is to get back on friendly terms with the player base first. Once they've regained trust and respect, they will probably drop a thread about their decision. None of this would be necessary, though, if they were planning on complying with the dev's demands.

Idk, we'll see...

Sadly, like in real life, you can't just forget about everything they've done in the past because they are trying to fix up all the issues they currently have. They can try as hard as they like to repair the damage they have done but the majority of us will probably not forget it. Which means if they continue to make poor decisions, another fallout will happen and it will be much worse each time.

A clean slate, in this case, would mean completely new admins that have few ties to factions but have the ability to do their jobs transparently, efficiently and without any bias toward the community or each other. As well as be mature about it and have the common sense needed to make good decisions. Ask yourself, how are you going to get a team of people like that from the remaining community? I don't see it happening.

I hope it works out for you guys. Just sometimes you need to let go of things that are lost causes.

Don't be delusional. It's already gone away. And if people would try to make some noise for the last time, you already know the answer.
"You know, man, we're discussing it, it's kinda hard to reach consensus when you need 10 people with different timetables and timezones."

P.S. But I really hope, that I'm wrong

At the risk of being banned myself, I request some leniency on my lack of knowledge. That being said, could I get some clarifications? I've read every single post in this thread (2 hours basically wasted... I've never actually seen a thread such as this in my life...) and am still confused.

I haven't played in a month, but I started playing around 2010-ish. I have a few hundred hours into Discovery, but haven't logged in often enough to keep my characters. I enjoy the role playing in game, but never really got into the forums. For that I apologize. I don't believe this thread is typical... I've read some RP threads and have been quite impressed. Anyway, on to my questions:

From what I gather, some admins (do we even know their names? Again, please excuse my ignorance) banned 6 players possibly unjustly. At least, without giving them explanations. Correct so far?

The (some?) developers of the mod are striking because they don't feel these bans were justified (because the banned players were not told why they were banned?)

Someone started DDoSing the server? Are we to assume one of the banned players is responsible, or a "white knight" trying to stick up for transparency of admin actions, or someone else? What impact has this DDoS had? How long has it been going on?

Who is/was Karlotta/Ninja? Did he deserve to get banned?

Are perma-bans not actually permanent? Are they "only" 6-month bans? If so, doesn't that mean after 6 months, the player is able to login again, but they won't have any of their ships / cash? (I thought after 3 months of inactivity, the character is deleted?) I guess I should first ask, if a player is banned, does that apply to the forums, game, or both?

What are "admins" anyway? Are they people who administer administrate both the game and the forums? Are there different admins for each?

It's been suggested that the admins (or current admins) are not explicitly needed. I'm not sure what to think of that opinion, but I find it hard to believe. Are all / some of the current admins corrupt, in the majority of players' opinions? If so, can new, just, admins not be appointed?

Has server population dropped since this drama started? (Other than the 6 banned players of course.) I seem to remember a stats page of player activity (years ago). Is that still around?

Has "server activity" dropped dramatically since this started? As in, some players are much more active than others - for example, I have a few characters and don't get around much, while other people I'm sure have tons of characters and poke their noses into all aspects of the game.

Is there anything else I should have asked but didn't? Is there a larger issue here that I'm completely missing?

I just emailed Wizou, the creator of Freelancer Companion, and was extremely excited when he emailed me back saying he updated the source code and fixed a bunch of issues related to Discovery. I made a post on that subject before I read this thread. Needless to say, my excitement level has diminished now that I'm starting to see people's "true selves." My priority is having fun flying ships around... trading, mining, some future combat... not getting involved in this craziness... but I'm really starting to fear for the future of this game.

Lastly, is there anything I can do to help the situation? I'm no developer and frankly, I don't have the time nor the energy to moderate. I assume the answer to this question is therefore "no" but Discovery (the game, not necessarily the forum, no offense, as I said, there have been many great posts) has always been very dear to me. I would like to help if I can. I'm sorry for the extreme length of this noob post and really appreciate any answers given.

Thank you for your time, and thanks for providing me quite a bit of enjoyment.
