Discovery Freelancer Mod Installation Guide

Ok so I'm a little lost..

I played in late 2014 up to july or so of 2015 with the hard disc for Freelancer but now I'm having to get the download from this forum thread. All the download gives me is a 7z archive with a "media maker pro" in it.

What am I missing?

EDIT: I should also mention I am quite the moron when it comes to software stuff.

- GUIDELINES

.NET FRAMEWORK 4.0 OR HIGHER IS REQUIRED. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY WITHOUT IT.
If you have Windows 7 or above you should be fine, but in the event you want to be sure, you can download .Net Framework here from microsoft.

DO NOT START FREELANCER VIA FREELANCER.EXE, USE DSLAUNCHER.EXE
Or you will potentially be banned due to mismatching versions.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Download the setup and proceed with the installation. You will be required to have an original freelancer installation.

When this is done, carry on and you will be asked where you want to install Discovery. Obviously do not install 4.88 in the same folder as 4.87.
When the setup is done, go to your programs list, go to Discovery Freelancer and click on Discovery Freelancer or alternatively, go to your installation folder and start DSLauncher.exe.
Wait for the Launcher to be done and when it is, a "Launch Game" button will appear. Click on it to play Discovery.

Vanilla Freelancer
You 'must' have the original version of Freelancer installed. The mod files are installed after you have this installed.

I registered to this website but I don't know if that is my user name and registration for the server?? . I am the uber noob , this seems to be a handy cap , lol I guess I am going blind , no excuses I just need some o9ne to explain a little4 better about a registered user name ?

It's only registration on Discovery forum. You will choose Character's name in game.

Thanks I figured it out finally, I had to search my hard drive for any other installs and did a complete fresh install from the ground up following instructions to the letter ..and it worked really well ... now I'm bouncing around between Pennsylvania and Liberty gathering up as much as I can , have a nice little freighter not to impressive fire power shields or engine but its hull is thick enough than it reminds me of something built in Reinland... working on my navigation skills .. I am beginning to think this is my favorite mod, still no interactions with any thing but AI...

These two then gives me an error when trying to contact Kitty (Could not contact). Is that a common issue? Back in days of 4.87 all went smooth. And I also uninstalled the 4.87 first (by uninstaller) , before installing '4.88.1'

Any suggestions?

You need the installer in the first post and a fresh install of freelancer.
If you're hanging on "contacting kitty" it means your launcher is failing to reach the backup server (designed for those that can't reach the main) so it's likely you have a firewall or antivirus blocking the communication.
