Quick question, who keeps admins accountable? This is the source of all the problems, isn't it?

Good bye my friends. Good luck in space. Fly safe.

This needs to be screenshotted and posted in facepunch's LMAO pics thread, it would receive an infinite amount of funny ratings

Weird...I had some effects changed for the longest time and never got into trouble. Well, except for when they immediatly banned for any slightest change back a long time ago. But they quickly undid that and changed it to only ban for damage/range/speed etc. changes that affect combat...or so I assumed.

Heh. I don't see the problem in testing effects on the server, I do know though, that using effects that do not exist already can be problematic and cause bans.

LOL.

do you know how astoundingly stupid -that- sentence sounds?

He wants to call them editors.

No, actually I would like to help.
But I'm also aware of some things like running a server/board and taking care of stuff so I'm using some rhetoric.

I'm doing modding stuff for more than 15 years.
I got education in this section but did not perform it as my profession.

I've contributed stuff back in time when Igiss managed things.
Developing is teamwork, following a give guideline, trying to 'read' the gameplay.
As said I'm aware that this is a heck of time consuming work but it's not hard like developing a GUI for a commercial game.

The very issue is what Qur'chak said.
Testing stuff on a live server without permission disqualifies you, period.
Making a thread about that issue by posting private chats and start a drama kicks you way beyond any social competence.

I hope this helps.

saw this posted on durandal's skype, came here to say exactly one thing

Quote:"I logged onto the live server with a modified client to test some things"

don't do that

log on live with a modified client at your own risk.
don't test stuff on live. ever.
the first stuff thing you learn in community college-tier software dev is "don't push untested changes to live", and the second is "do your tests on the test environment"

there was no reason for this to ever go so laughably wrong. admins unban the guy, devs slap him on the wrist for testing stuff on live, you all go home nice and happy.

it would be very astonishing if a community as old and long-standing as disco did not have some kind of test environment. like, stuff, just set up a server in parallel on the main box, keep it updated to the latest dev branch on git, and if it's some minor change (like switching the effects on a weapon), just remote in and edit the line in the .ini then restore from backup when you're done.

like, holy stuff you guys. holy stuff.

Yes, the forum auto filters swearing. That is not an excuse for profanity.

I'm one of those old administration. It's simple. Anticheat would trigger and player would be autobanned. Said player could post in the wrongfully banned section and wait till an administrator responds to it or use Skype/forum pm to contacthe an administrator faster.

I'll also note that when a new version was released and bugs fixed we thanked the volunteer devs and sent them on their merry way. When we felt a new version was needed we'd get more volunteers. Some of them were returning devs not all but some. Because, simply put, dev work is pretty easy to teach and there was always volunteers lined up to give it a shot. There is no super secret mysterious hard work going on.

No one. If the administration is filled with screwups the community falls apart and disco come's to an ignoble end. That's the accountability. Welcome to a private server. Feel free to make a new server. Others have done it. Cannon and I were in a Skype group with administration who made their own servers and we gladly helped them with their endeavors. Nothing stopping you.
