It's a role playing server, I get that much and I role play. I role played a merc, now I pirate a bit. However, it's always been on my mind that the system seems a big one sided and there are too many powertraders.

Example:
"Hey Hey Trader #t! How about stopping for a moment"
*Trader goes to dock with Tradelane*
*I shoot the trade lane*
"How about giving me a donation of 1m to my "charity" hm?"
*Trader goes to hit Cruise*
*I Cruise Disruptor him*
"Seriously. I don't want to have to blow you up. All I'm asking for is 1 mil"
*They start using thruster*
"I really don't want to ----"
*They dock with tradelane behind.

I mean... I really don't want to blow them up, and I role play a pirate. What are they doing? Just flat out trying to get away. There's no role playing, nothing! Anyone else been getting a lot of this? It's making me ditch pirating for trading.

Kill them. If they cant stop to roleplay while they try and get away, then they do not deserve to.

Keep their shields down, it gets their attention faster.

After my demand, if they keep moving, they start losing hull.

I usually pirate in a Barghest.
It has a SNAC / Nova.

Keeping their shields down as distinct advantages when you're carrying the latter.
If they try to run, KABWOOSH.
Usually one-shots transports that aren't overly large or packing Capital Armour. I did that to a gull yesterday...
Fun, fun, fun. (You think - "No fair," but you should have seen this guy. He had it coming.)

I go on little power trips in my Barghest, hehe.

I play both,and it work's both way's mate.

As a trader i here "halt" no name, then pew pew "I said halt!" still no name, but since shot at i stop, and ask why? "3mil or die" I now try to RP with pirate, and boom i die.

There is power trader's,and power pirate's,and (cannot say the word) who just want to pwn people.
Half the server is great, but half of it is full of people who cannot RP for their life, and just want the biggest baddest ship out there. And before any say i power trade look at my sig,and see chars in game. My biggest ship is a GB.

Maybe my idea of engaging is different... But my idea of Engaging is well...

Say there's 2 fighters. They see each other and attempt to negotiate. Say the negotiations break down and one starts to "Engage" another, they would then fire a missile, or a volley of missiles. In which case the other fighter would have to dodge to avoid annihilation.

Not to mention that well...
Quote:5.2 All attacks must be the result of some form of role play. "Engaging" is not sufficient. An attack is any hostile action that drains shields to less than 50%. Being hit with a CD is not considered an attack. If a player is attacked he has a right to defend himself regardless of who is attacking.

I like to try to keep "Engagement" as a last chance type of thing and knocking their shields past 50% is considered engagement and when you're "engaged" you wouldn't really stop to negotiate with an openly hostile target no?

Hehe, I feel your pain, but it is kind of expected, isn't it? I mean, traders REALLY don't want to get pirated. IRL they'd do what they could to escape, so here, where there are far fewer and less drastic consequences, they will try, too. As a sometime pirate, I say pound him/her to within an inch of his/her life, and then ask politely for your donation again. If this doesn't work, start killing them all untill they give the 1 mill.

Of course, something to realise is that just because there is a trasnport with a full load that doesn't mean there is a full bank account behind it. The trader side of me is screaming, "If you want me to stop and pay the 1mill when I have it, then don't kill me when I don't have it." Nothing is worse than sinking everything you have into the shiny new ship and it's cargo and then being paupered by the resulting pirate attack.

Maybe demand cargo from time to time, or impossible things, like the keys to thier personal yacht. Traders are more apt to rp with pirates if it isn't, "Give me your millions or dai!" Yeah, you don't get anything in the end, but you aren't really pirating for credits, are you? Make a pirate trader to outfit your pirate and then go hog wild with it. Steal some poor traders wife, ravish his daughter. Make him watch as you burn thirty lots of his cargo, make him burn the cargo. These things can all be done without making the other player lose his hard earned credits and will result in the good rp you want.

"Two things I know; Gravity sucks and Ion Storms blow. And that proves the universe is trying to kill us all" - Barren Waste, Captain of the Wasteland Wanderer

An approximation of my reaction when I see my next victim...er, these forums.

I saw no powertradeing or non RP in the example so far as you showed it.
Big Trains are difficult to fly, if a Trader trys to run, he has no time to type some sentences to you i havent.
Besides as long as he has a chance to get away there is no rp reason for the trader to idle chat with an evil pirate.

Show him that he cant escape, then he might stop and talk, i do, but if i can run i wont talk before i am away, i am too buissy running.
So if you say, hes a bad player because he is not doing what you want, you are the bad player, not him.

And why is it always the pirates who crys around, if your not able to pirate, then dont.

Interesting point. The real issue I guess is that people trade for money, only tagged traders do it for RP reasons. That's all. So if pirate care about RP he should avoid to annoy not-tagged traders, or not-tagged miners.
