<nerd tiem>

So it was my birthday yesterday, and at one point I took a stroll through a nearby Games Workshop store. I strolled out with a battalion, unit of Grave Guard, army book, and the model for Vlad von Carstein.

Don't do this if it isn't your birthday/you aren't rich. Wallet = oh noes.

Anyway, I took a stroll through the army book and holy crap, why are Grave Guard so win... at least the Invocation of Nehek can't raise them above starting size, but still...

From Skeleton statline, for paying a measly four points you get:

+1 strength and toughness

Killing Blow

+1 armor save

+1 WS and Initiative

+3 Ld

And, a 50 point magic standard.

For four points per model.

That, and the models no longer cost 4x as much, and look prettier to boot. I so want to field a unit of 60 and go "WHAT NOW" to someone. glhf killing that.

Oh yeah, Tomb Banshee = mobile Ark of the Covenant. And stand and shoot. And fire into combat. And unkillable.

Speaking of unkillable, Vlad is unstoppable. Really. He's practically impossible to hit, very difficult to wound, you need a cannonball to surpass his armor, and even then he has not only a ward save but he comes back to life ANYWAY!!!

And Mannfred, with the knowing 13 spells, isn't too shabby either. Having almost as many Wounds as a frikken dragon never hurt, to top it off. And he can ride an Abyssal Terror...

So, methinks they are teh brokenz. Unless you play Skaven and aim 4 Warp Lightning cannons at the general first turn, but that's being unsportsmanlike. I guess so is an Ethereal, scythed, killing blow-enhanced, flying chariot, but still.

The trick is to tie up the uber scarys with scaries of your own, take the rest of the army down and use dispells to prevent Mannfried doing anything stupid. Never try to kill the uberpwnzors, it just doesn't work. If they have no support they are practically useless. That's the key to defeating a vampire count army.

I personally play 40k, as I have two full armies of it...

But I have a decent sized Chaos Force. I wish I had some sort of meat shield for tying up scaries...

It's not like 40k, where you put a Commisar in with 40 Conscripts. Oh, get through that fool!

Oh I do, two landspeeder squadrons does the trick, add that to a couple of assault squads, two five man bike squads and two vindicators, meat shield armies fall. HQ is a chaplain with lightning claws in termie armour and a five man termie assault squad, if I've got the points they get a Landraider Crusader to jump out of. Tis bloody nasty.

err... Baal predator? Was ist das? And are you talking 40k or fantasy?

As far as 40k goes, I have some 8-ish armies from over the years, but Tyranids are my favorites. Gotta love the beautiful and awesome Carnifex, plus piles of Genestealers (I have some 76 of them now...) and a converted Broodlord. And Lictors. Don't forget the Lictors.

I have a Tyranid army. Has every unit type in it, practically. Except for a new carnifex... Still using me old one.

Tips against a Bretonnian Army (1000pts)? They'll be a grudge match against a friend this weekend.

For tying up nasties, I used to go for the evisor assassin. Kept the Avatar of Khaine busy for most of a match once... And he explodes on death!:D

As for Warhammer I have a ranged dwarf army... The fun I had against a dogs of war army once...:D
A cannon, organ gun, unit of crossbowmen, thunderers and a tiny unit of clansmen.
