(ON MY EXPERIENCE, IN THE FAR 2014 ->) A new player connects to the server, launches to space from Planet Eire, he looks around and tries to make money, on the Helium field on Pennsylvania for example. Then he learns to RP and starts to explore the Sirius sector.... all this, mostly on Liberty spaces. Same things can be done on others house capitals but the starting point of the whole server is Pennsylvania, Liberty space. New players, that don't know how much new factions are there (Like Gallia) and see Liberty as starting point would be urged to choose Liberty factions, ignoring other factions on different houses. For this Gallia (As example) is empty and Liberty is "full".

I propose this:

The starting point on the server will be an OORP system, like Connecticut. You undock from a Starting station and there will be 7 portals (For Liberty, Bretonia, Kusari, Rheinland, Gallia and Omicrons, Malta or Crete). If you press Info (F9, if I remember) you will see a description of the "House" selected, with all his story and maybe a timeline. Once chosen the portal, then the House, you will be teleported in the House capital and you will never come back to that OORP system, that it's used only for new players. You can use /restart on that starting system anyway.

I like this idea alot!

In addition to this, the /restart needs to be mentioned more clearly and the templates should be easier to find (maybe add a button to the landing page to the template tutorial). I have so far helped 5 players with their restart, in about two weeks. They didn't even know there WAS a /restart. The command needs more exposure to new players - I only stumbled upon that command, after a long hiatus, by chance. By then i had already mined my butt off on everything default.

Good idea, @Officially_that_Guy. We should explain to new players that there are more new factions to see and to try. When they see "Discovery freelancer" they think that it's a typical server like HHC, and then it will believe that it won't be nothing of innovative. For this more freelancer players at the starport don't want to join on discoveryGC, besides the fact that they complain about rules/admin rigidity.

Ehm... it's that what I told. "Like Connecticut" is referred as example.

I brought this idea up about two years ago, but didn't gain much steam. However nowadays, I believe that this may be needed sooner than later.

The only issue is how to get new players a starting cash flow, You could have a unique minable commodity with up to 3 sell points for each house/sector of Sirius depending on where you start. Nothing too high, but not too low.

While the signature did not break any rules before, the lack of third party hosting caused your signature to take up over half of the page. Until the problem is fixed, I'll have to revert those images to links. ~Inferno

Well, how about this - many MMOs (yes, i know. evil word...) have newbie areas. I am thinking of "Tibia", which had a whole island dedicated to rookies ONLY. You had to reach a certain level to be able to leave the island and could never return. How about a star system like connecticut - a large mining area with great profits to get people started, until a certain level when yield drops to not-worth-it levels depending on player level (so people do not stay in that system forever), disabled cash commands, and an assortment of jumpgates that lead to certain star systems around sirius.

The /restart commands could give people the IFF and ID they want, but the bases in that system remained neutral and the restart would not move them through sirius.. The only weapons to be bought would be mining lasers so we dont have trolls ruining newcomers' experience. Somehow the options available to new players would need exposure, maybe through something like "Info signs" - non-dockable stations that transmit information.

It may sound like alot of work - but the return of inventing and developing a system like that may be worth it in the long run. And you could tackle this step-by-step, ofcourse.

What do you guys think about this? Does it seem viable or am I making a fool out of myself?

Oh yeah, NightStalker's Universe Mod did this. You start out in a system called Destiny, then you're given some starting ships and equipment, with a choice of five jumpholes leading to completely different areas of the mod. It was to make sure there wasn't a single "newb" system and encouraged trying each of the areas out. I love this idea!

Shrink space more and more. I will be repeating this every single time.

You wont have to shrink it if you make it more accessible i think. Maybe block off a few systems and when theres enough players have a gate event or something. Let nomads do nomad things and mess with humanity. Destroy gates, destabilize jumpholes, stuff like that
