This whole concept should be pretty simple.

If you are being harmful to a player for personal gain - do not do it.
If you are being harmful to a player for the hell of it - do not do it.
If you are being harmful to a player for your own enjoyment - do not do it.

If you are being harmful to a character -and the player is clearly not ok with it (upset, rather than annoyed), don't do it.
If you are being harmful to a character and the player is fine with it - by all means.

There are at least two people in each rp encounter. Would you sit down to a board game with someone who hurt you each time? Would you voluntarily play a game of some kind of computer game with someone who hurt you each time? No. Disco is much the same.

Rather than rely on spoonfed green messages - why not engage independent thought and consider what is most enjoyable for both players.

So basically, play a game without any risk, suspense or need of rational thinking, because you are protected from any single bad outcome.
Eh. Not sure if we want that either.

Sorry jazz but from what you are saying that means piracy is out of the question since traders do not enjoy it?

I enjoy being pirated, if they put a bit of effort into their piracy... in fact it's one of the best bits about trading Big Grin

(Edit: not an open invitation to constant pirate ganks)

No amount of RP, regardless of how well-made it is, will prevent the cheated party to view it as anything else as having been wronged by the player behind it. Do you really need more reasons to be upset about certain people in the community? I think we already have enough negativity. You've asked me about this every once and a while and I told you why this is probably never going to get our approval.

EvE online allows for such actions because they have a completely different approach in policing players - a.i having none. There is no code of conduct there.

The community is already in a rather tarnished state in terms of how well people treat one another. Do you really need more possible sources of negativity? Just because you want to have doors open to a very certain specific aspect of roleplay possibility? I highly doubt the tradeoff is worth it.

I would say the problem here is that there is no mechanism to hold the "scammer" responsible in RP. It's risk free for the scammer. If there was a way the scammer could be caught and for example, lose all his money, or be in "prison" and not be able to use that character for a certain amount of time, then fine. But we have no way to punish scamming in rp and thus, it's pretty much a one sided taking advantage that doesn't give a level playing field for RP. It's not fair within the realities of the game we play.

Isn't it powergaming, which is not allowed by the rules? The same way it is stupid to make a character that is more powerful than any other in the universe and write a story in which he kills the leader of a big faction, without consent of the other player, its no difference your character scams anyone he likes. INRP, is he good enough to pull the scam off? Why? Was there a chance he could fail? etc. Also there is an important thread in Stories and Biographies where it says this:
Dab Wrote: When posting in another person's story, or incorporating another person's character into a story of your own, please take the time to send a copy of that post to the person in question for approval before posting it on the forums.
So its clear the other scammed party needs to approve your scam story.
You can for example scam someone you want to scam inrp, and when you are about the reveal you are rping a scam, refund the scammed player ingame (not inrp) and send a story to him. If he likes it he can choose to let you keep the the money (by returning the cash back) or if he does not, welp too bad for you, he does not want to be part of your rp. Also I think that if your story is more than "you scammed, lolz my monies now" and credits scammed are not in billions, anyone would let you keep the money for a good rp.
