So guys I had this thought. Since each shield uses a .ale script would it be possible/plausable to create custom shields for each battleship, or at least the most used ones. My thoughts for this would be that is would be really cool and give battleships a really nice and unique look. To my knowledge Nyx, Treewrym and Laz are well versed in Ale. Any input on this? Possible? Easy? Other peoples opinions on whether this is a good idea?

I will delve head-straight into .ALE editing pretty soon myself. Im interested in the possibilities of those FX.

Not a bad idea actually. If its possible, then you can make it. I was thinking the same with the Cerberus turrets aswell. Remove them completely and replace it with "[FACTION] Heavy Battleship Turret" with their own unique effects depending on which faction... Come to think of it, this can be done on a lot of guns (razors, solaris etc.), but it may require a ton of time for each.

I agree with Barb, I am giving serious thought to starting a mass production of unique "heavy turret" models for battleships and cruisers for each house to replace cerbs with.

We may keep a generic cerb for other factions (pirates, etc.)

The ALE part of things and the INIs will be easier than making the turrets.
I have a bit of knowledge what it takes to get a turret working in-game (base and barrel components).

If I get a muse for it, I could start doing those.

Yes, it is possible. You can have separate effects for the same shield based on how much damage is received - so an impact from a fighter gun will have a different effect than an impact from a battleship primary. Shields can also have an effect for when they go down, although so far that's only used by trade lanes when you disrupt them.

A good idea. @Titan* already had House Cerbs finished and prepared for implementation, but I don't know why they weren't implemented. I think it happened sometime around the Heavy Decision, might be the reason.

no i'm not doing it since there's too many ships

also shields on several ships are positioned weirdly instead of having the hardpoint at the center, so that's another thing that was partially annoying, as noted in here.

which can be fixed by centering all the hardpoints.
