Or you live in Germany where damage to property > damage to life.

That's a tad bit generalised and laz for 4 years didn't have a single ban that i'm aware of. also i work with incarcerated every day it isnt the case here.

I'm not a long -time member like many others posting here, but in my opinion, if somebody get's banned, it's for having been troublesome, damaging and prejudicial to the community as a whole.

As to the exact reason as to why they have been banned? Why does everyone care this much? They got banned for a reason often, if not always stated in the sanction notice and that's it. They overbent the bow and broke it.

Now, if you all would bring up as much energy and time to make this community a better place, trying to find solutions to our shrinking active player base instead of trying to get people back who have been proven harmful to the community's existence, we'd all benefit from it on the longer term.

Only my 2 cents here but think about it.

Since I'm part of disco, I've seen people get banned for a reason, get unbanned again, and then perma-banned because they did exactly the same crap they did to get banned the first time.
Are you guys so naive to think that everyone is able to change?
We have many examples, of those players who, despite the fact they got given a second chance, never grabbed it and reverted to their old ways pretty soon.

So why do admins ban? To help to keep this place clean and enjoyable for everyone.

What about GamerGirl, Alhimik, Snakelancer, Sava, Burak, Exodite, Hone, Lyth, Makc or many others. Oh wait.

What is even more laughable and ironic is that you're comparing people who were simply being toxic on the forum [Lyth] (and I've seen people being more toxic on the forum than Lyth and not get the same punishment as he did) to people who cheated on the server, ruined gameplay and potentially DDOS'd the server. And even so, most of the ban's material was from 2013 and 2014. Please.

It is also quite funny how some people are relating Discovery Server Rules to Germany's Law? Seriously?

I sincerely hope that punishments, the process of giving punishments and the validity of evidence behind them are taken more appropriately rather than using ancient stuff to shut people down for whatever reason there was.

You do realize it's the entire point of the post

I've always considered a ban to be a bit of a shake, a way of saying to someone "You've done wrong and if you don't change your ways this is what will happen." Its a taste of denial meant to force the person to consider what they could potentially lose if they continue in their current way.

The gamble is that the person returning may just ignore the punishment or at worst, use the chance given to inflict greater harm as an act of revenge but on the flip side that same person may decide to improve themselves and there are plenty of people in this community right now who have done just that. Its a risk, no doubt about it, and there are exceptions needed for serious rule breaking but overall its better to give a second chance and hope to be right rather than give no chance and hope you aren't wrong.

Spamming a discussion on bans with off topic spiderman and pony pictures is darvinism. I suggest against going for that particular award.

PSA: If you have been having stutter/FPS lag on Disco where it does not run as smoothly as other games, please look at the fix here: https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...pid2306502

well, in that case, I'd like to add my own straight-to-the-point 2cents.

Bans are supposed to be structured around the idea that the person being banned has been warned several times, then fined many times, until it's known to be totally and utterly hopeless for change, and are considered psychopaths who enjoy drinking tears.

To give second chance via 'unbanning' is the equivalent of a victim of abuse being accepting of their abuser back into their lives. Chances have been spoiled, the trust has already been broken, and relations have been torn apart.

Sure, maybe accept them back in other forums, other games... but not this one. They've had their chance(s) here. Banning is the law using its teeth for once. Grow some backbone. Don't accept an abuser back. Let them prove their change elsewhere.

That'd also require a solid system of previous warnings and temporary-bans to try get the point through. Cheating (not just some screw-ups with the ini-files) and attacking the server not included.
