Tried adding GPU type to magic GPU list somewhere in Freelancer's directory? I remember that it solved some problems with my game back when I was using different gpu

Kaby Lake processors does work only with Windows 8.1 and 10 while Basic support (not advanced) is working. I don't know, with integrated Radeon graphics Freelancer is working okay on Win10. Try to use VirtualBox or compatibility mode with Windows 8.

I even went as far as to just make every program use it when possible, but this damn game still doesn't. I tried it on the launcher - still nothing.

I'm going to assume you looked up Freelancer specifically here and checked those settings, not just the global ones?

God help you. It's pain in the head for every Freelancer gamer. I suggest you to try to switch back to Windows 7... Somehow... If it's still possible. I play with Win 10 and it's absolute pain, especially when Spazzy starts those NPC events.

I wouldn't say 'every' player here is experiencing issues.

Far as I know, Freelancer engine does not support laptop based GPU. I have some problems with it like lower FPS when recording and low FPS upon events.

Sorry, could you expand a bit on that? I'm not quite sure what you mean.

Yep.

Is Freelancer just not opening (nothing happens) or do you actually get that annoying window about your GPU not supporting it?

It opens fine, just that it always boots using integrated when I'd rather actually use the GPU and not have silky smooth 15fps in events.

No messages or anything of the sort, boots normally.

Hm, that sounds pretty unusual.

In any case since you're running a Nvidia GPU, you could have a look if it could do with a driver update for it or perhaps getting the correct driver or so.
Take a look here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Alternatively check your windows settings regarding anything screen-related that may help.

Not really sure what to say.

Had the same problem with my laptop. Freelancer was running on the integrated Intel GPU instead of the nVidia 860m.
Here's what worked for me:
- Get the d3d8.dll file from this thread, and paste it in the EXE folder: "Freelancer could not find a video card" crash - Read this.
- Attempt to launch Discovery. You're probably going to get an error for a missing d3dx9 DLL. In that case, try installing DirectX 9 from this link: Download DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer
Now Freelancer is properly recognized by the driver, and is showing up in the nVidia activity monitor. Hope that works for you as well.

Thanks for the solution Nerva, but it didn't seem like it worked.

I put the .dll there, but it didn't really change anything...
