Please don't get me wrong about this, I appreciate any of those mini-events. In fact, I bought a certain Dreadnought especially for that. But I do think what happened a few moments ago was sub-optimal. A mixed group of nomad NPCs with different weaponry, most of them with cap-breaking torpedos and a few of them with heavy-hitting beams. That's all nice, but the numbers were just ridiculous. Was that intentional? What was the expection of it? While I don't want to blame anyone for anything, I know myself that being the host of those situations where a group of players is provided with NPCs can lead to certain frustration about those group doing everything to get rid of the NPCs and claim the price. The question I had to ask myself then were what about their actions was not enjoyable and what can be done to prevent them to do it again or even to encourage them to do it again. Was the problem that we brought capitals against the nomads? Was the intention that those NPCs have to be unbeatable from the beginning? Was it a challange?

I would really like to know, because the events feel weirdly beyond any balance sometimes.

While I do not know much I do know that they are made to be done with more people rather than going solo or bringing one or two friends.

We had two Overlords, one bloody newbie gunboat and one Atlantis, and one Archer. And one snub.

http://imgur.com/a/Pa7E4 and http://imgur.com/PzUZCQ6 Is my end. The most notable thing is the number of explosions.

I don't think it was intentional, it was probbably an accident and miscalculation on how that'll affect the server. Mainly the mass spam of nommatter cannons and the type 3 missiles.

What would help, is that they're done in waves rather than all at once, Smaller waves but strong enough to hit hard against the capital ships. Enough so that it shouldn't try to cause people to not run away i guess.

Because at the end of that, It was just a dos-fest. Allies were suffering because of the lag, and somehow i lived despite lagging the most. i couldn't hit anything.

But hey, i got good roleplay out of it, which is something.

It was a stress test more than anything else, really. You probably already know that I tend not to do these that early in the morning, usually.
As for the numbers, you can ignore about 20 of them, because the nomad 3 event missiles are currently borked and do 100 damage per shot.

There were no nomads with torpedoes, however, so I am not really sure where did you get that from. The nomad bomber event npc has a snac and a CD launcher, a ship that is easily destroyed by snubs. You had quite a few near Manhattan before the timer ran out, so I am not really sure where they went by the time the spawn happened.

I am simply rather surprised that instead of walling off the area from civilians due to the numbers or doing some sort of similar roleplay expected from the military until you could muster the numbers, you were inclined to fly your ship right into it, die, then post a thread about it. Not that I did not expect that as, in the end, I rolled my eyes and despawned them.

Do not think that going into these PVE events will be easy. Not all of them are going to be balanced to your favor. You will just need to get your head around it.

Well i really enjoyed undocking from Philly last night to have a couple waves of Nomads appear on scanners...gave me a bit of a start. I dont even think there was anyone else around that area but i kept open comms with myself and Philly station about the attack, and the rescue of pilots who were spaced by the nomies Smile

Ouh, Spazzy, not every knows you that well. I don't know what your schedule is. What I know: Your schedule is [NOPE]d up. ;3

I mistook the missiles with torpedos - doesn't really make it better, though. I think the entire confusion is the result of a lack of transparency about what the event was intended about, though. I mean, look at what exactly happened. We got the coordinates, so we moved over with all the ships that logged for that time. Three capitals, one cruiser, one snub and one newbie gunboat. No bombers, at least not when I was around (and I was around at Hattan when the timer was at 7 minutes). So what we had, we brought. We didn't know the nomads would move anywhere, nor did we know that anyone else would log in time. After all, the only public announcement about it was ingame for ten minutes in the early hours and then in the shoutbox when I posted it there.

Let me say I'm a bit confused by what you're writing here right now, though. Usually those events feel like they are to fight hard NPCs. You often encourage people to respawn and go in again. We did out little RP lines, however the group consisted mostly out of newbies and beginner-roleplayers. Of course there is no coordination. People see NPCs, people throw everything they have at the NPCs. Either they don't know better or are used to it from previous events. Apart from that, there were no civilians around.

So it is pretty much a bunch of misconception from both sides right now, and that is exactly why I made this thread. There is a lack of transparency when those events happen. You can't make those quick-quick-events and expect people to plan out their roleplay behavior adjusted to that. They log to kill those NPCs. I take it you took this thread with a bit of salt, however that was not the intention of it. Tell people what to do and they do it, because usually they don't expect interactive NPCs.

The lack of transparency is intended. You are not going to be given all of the information about the event and you will need to figure it out yourself. All you need to know is that:

1) These events are dangerous (to both you and anyone else)
2) If you die to the NPCs, you do not need to leave the system

It literally took me making a thread about it to figure out what you would have like to see instead.

That is exact the kind of message that encourages people to throw in their ships over and over again.

Edit²: If you want, I can offer you my help the next time you do a similar event. It's a golden rule in game design to hint the players what they need to do in first place. Those things you spawn aren't players, they are NPCs.

On top of this note, I remember having a discussion earlier on how they almost seem to act like a " player controlled ship" having to roleplay with the npcs sounds quite fun actually
