Why is PvP so damn difficult?

Eh bottom line, all this nerfing and changes over the past few years have pretty much killed off this game, Numbers do not lie and the population even at peak times now is pretty pathetic. And yea i have heard all the "people move on to other games" crap over and over again but deny it all you want this game has pretty much dropped in population a ton over the passed couple years and i know so many who have quit due to nerfing and removal of so many things in this game that so many loved before. But yea many of you just say it is other reasons cause you are in denial of the truth of it. Heck i remember when this game was actually hard to log into at times cause the server was full. All i have seen in this thread are the same people defending all these nerfs cause it made them happy pvp was harder cause their egos like nomnom said are bruised and they do not get as many blues.



P.S. Let's face it they need to change this from Discovery RP to Discovery PVP. Because that seems most all of you are worried about is your damn blues!


Good solution... remove all systems but conn, remove all ships and bring back the Starflea and only mount 1 gun on it, no shield. Then everything will be balanced and only skill will win. Would that be balanced enough?

This would almost be true if the superduperaces would spend 30 minutes teaching everyone their tricks, settings, tunnings, techniques, and sploits, and if they were willing to help noobs progress.

However, they are not.

Please spend 30 minutes telling everyone about all your tricks, and all the ways to counter them, and all the ways to beat you.

Nope you're wrong, no one ever taught me *****. No one gave me any hints, told me how to earlyturn, told me how to box or when to shoot. No one told me how to dodge, how to place mines, how to arc a mini razor.

I learned everything on my own, look at videos, mirror their play styles and actually think outside the box and you will get better. Obviously I did.

plenty of people, namely XTF players, have taken far more than just 30 minutes to bother teaching those who wanted to learn ingame. The average session takes 2 hours of you wasting your time because the guy you're teaching won't do anything you told him he should do and will instead go off putting 0 effort in practicing anything you taught him step by step, ignoring you if he ever comes across and generally being a huge waste of the teacher's time because he never intended to improve to begin with, he wants someone to download him an AI that plays better so he has to do nothing. it's funny because most people that did commit to improving became XTF members shortly after

no, you do not need reflexes to do well in the game, my average reaction time is of about 0.3 seconds which is considered that on an adult despite i'm just a little man and i can dodge mines just fine, which funnily enough is explained step by step in the links above

Look late to this I know but honestly PvP isnt hard. Im not an ace and have lost a hell of a lot of times. Practice does make you exceptionally better though as I can fight with whoever I like and have a good chance at winning now. It also really doesnt take as long as people make out, In saying that though if you don't actually enjoy PvP (like the OP) then it will take longer because you will get frustrated with it and likely not absorb as much. Even just learning and focusing on one skill like early turning will make you far more deadly an opponent.

Thank you for your glorious 2 posts telling people about engine kill, strafing, and that it's a good idea to fly around a mine instead of into it.

I had no idea those things existed for the last 9 years and will start training 30 minutes per day immediately, expecting to beat you in a week.

Yeah. Exactly.

Why are you fighting for the sake of fighting? If you are legit searching for tips the wiki has most maneuvers listed and how to preform them. I believe it was either yber or protègè who posted a PvP guide and in conn you can find alot of the better PvP players who are willing to offer advice on what you have learned from the guides and wiki.

Please note though if you don't show signs of at least trying to learn and get better on your own it is hard to convince others to invest time in you.

It's not that you don't have the time to improve, you willingly choose not to invest it into improving, yet you're in the first row when it comes to complaining about aces. Discovery isn't different than any other learning curve game or real life for that matter. The only difference with games is that csgo, dota, league and others have different divisions while we're all thrown into 1 server here. You think even with the skill split people don't complain about smurfs in those games? They're probably the most common type of threads found on reddit and wherenot.

As for real life, you're like an employee who's trying to become like his colleague who just got a pay raise for doing tremendous work, except you're not trying to take a learning curve he did but rather look for shortcuts to instantly get there because you're too lazy. Funnily enough lazy is exactly what people aren't when it comes to complaining.

That doesn't mean discovery shouldn't have noob tubes, and old sidewidners were a great system for that where you had to give up a gun to use a missile, something a vet would never do and a noob would always do. CMs worked fine enough, sidewinders had balanced stats and they hit about 1/3rd of the time and with proper manouvers you could dodge some of them. I remember fights with and against IMG in the Taus, all of them had old sidewinders or firestalkers and nobody complained, it was a great "shortcut" without breaking anything for the aces. If anything, we need more additions like that one. Small shortcuts are fine, as long as they're not 400ms unCMable undodgeable missiles.

I don't need to use half the stuff writen there to beat you or anyone better than you, so maybe you should get off your high horse.
Not to mention that you obviously have not read anything. As I said, people like you who want someone else to play the game for them are a waste of time and air.

It's funny how you people would rather have a good player teach everyone else rather than become good yourselves and teach the people you so fiercily say need to learn. And since you seem to know a lot better than any of us how to show them I'm sure you'd do much better than I ever could, mister easier-to-beat-than-lvl1-npc.

Ironically, you've just summed up the singular reason most aces are at the level that they are. People who enjoy the game and fight for the sake of fighting are good at it. I learned back in '09 because it was a fun game and I wanted to get good at it, not for any other reason.

I definitely agree with that. Enjoying something is certainly gonna make it easier to get better at it, Also if you enjoy it you are also less likely to make excuses eg. Ping, reaction time, non meta loadout.

Problem with this topic though is no amount of equipment will make one player (nooblets) better in a fight while also hindering another player (Aces).
