A few things need to be clarified here.


The jump is not instant. The charge time is 3 minutes long and even when it is ready to jump, it is CDable by a cruise disruptor.
The jump is open only for the K'Hara and Vigrant factions, not for indies.

If the jump is used to troll people, such as the described situation where they are jumped out and left to fly back - that faction will quickly see this new toy taken away at best and having their officialdom placed under review at worst.

Otherwise, all players have the right to defend themselves. CDing someone is not an attack. You are in the clear rule-wise to do all you can in the threat of getting jump, or after getting jumped. Nothing has changed.

The original idea was the Vagrants to be different from the K'Hara who had the perma-cloak, which is/was so to speak their perk for hunting. Since the Vagrants are not evolved to hunt but to survive, they evolved to be able to use jump drives on all Vagrant shells. Using those jump drives, the Vagrants returned to Sirius, and should be able to use them to jump from place to place. I'm actually surprised myself about the ability to jump away other people, as I never thought about this ability. When we concipated it, it was more of an alternative to reach any point of the map quicker, as the K'Hara, back then when we formed the Vagrants, had the Iota gates. The specifications about the ability to jump with multiple ships was more of an addition to allow us to bring in cloaked ships as well as to make sure the jump spread wouldn't be too high (especially in terms of unfocused jumps). That was the original purpose from our side.

To avoid the creation of Orewu, I do think we limit this on our side to that only, and leave the ability to separate human targets for special circumstances where players should be able to handle it without crying too much. I do, however, anticipate this experiment and the results. If anything, Foxglove and I will discuss about this while watching how this turns out to be.

Then again, it is also a question of when people are just mad at the nomads for having this little tool and when they are justified in being mad about its abusal. I rarely see human players complaining about how the Nammu is not able to instakill snubs like human gunboats can, or even compete with other gunboats, etc.

So, one can't mount a cloak and a jumpdrive at the same time? No sneaky cloaky nomads jumping random unsuspecting people randomly so they can do what they please with them in private? But still, how do I know a Nomad has started charging a JD if there is no effect to indicate so? (the one who stole some of my friends from the BAF|MN convoy didn't have a visible effect)

And yes, it's either cloak or jump drive, as explained earlier in this thread. I guess the jump drive function is bound to the nomad CM launcher?

Foxglove and I were just talking about it and if this shouldn't work out the way it is supposed to be - as snubs kidnapping caps might be a bit of a funny overkill - we might end up requesting two different CMs for that. One for smaller ships to jump without fleet-jump trait and one for bigger ships like Irra and Marduk, which will have the trait. I think that's the best solution to prevent any weird abuse. Rest asured though, Fluffboi and me will have an eye on our Vagrants. So if you encounter any weird things caused by our fellow people, please tell us, as we gave order to not use it to kidnap people - only if it is acceptable in roleplay cases. I really would like to have that option open.

Kidnapping people to perform medical experiments on them and then return them so they can stay silent about what has happened to Molder's sister (for very good reasons), is certainly fun (for the kidnapper), but I'm afraid that you and Fluffboi won't always be in charge of the Vagrants, or at least be able to monitor your babies.

PS: I agree with the idea about different JDs.

Well, it looks like it's suddenly not that much "intended" anymore.

There is a very fine line between giving an ID tools for something unique, and have them use it for harassment. If I see more reports about this sort of thing, it only means that the two official nomad groups we have simply do not have the playerbase that can be trusted with ''nice stuff'' as it were and the changes are removed.

The ability is intended, the usage as described earlier where it is done for the sake of pulling someone 200k off the plane in a ship that cannot even suicide itself is something else.

As for removing the jump ability from smaller ships, that can be done easily enough. However, I am hesitant to do so after running it for less than one day so far. From what I understand, the people who used it in a grief-y manner already had a finger waggled at by their faction lead.

I want to make this frighteningly clear. If anyone sees khara id ships trolling or harassing with the new stuff. Let spazzy or me know so I can get thier ships deleted and thier ass kicked out into the cold. Im sure someone willing to not cause grief can replace them esily.

As an aside If its not too much of an issue and the vagrants still want to have it so they have jump tech and us perma-cloaks im happy for it but thats up to the greens and devs and people who are actually trying to make this work.

However with the 3 min chargeup ... (im sorry i havent gotten in lately) isnt here still visual effects? id think that is sufficient warning. imo
