Kusari/Rheinland alternate trade route, Sigma 21 System

Kazuno Outpost is a facility whose construction began in 824 A.S. to answer House Kusari increased concerns regarding the protection of its economic ties with House Rheinland.
The recent conflict erupting between Gas Miner Guild and House Rheinland, following the assault against Fulda border station, turned the main trade route established in Sigma 13 system to be subject to frequent disruption and increased risk for civilian traffic.

Kusari government was forced to take steps towards securing an alternate trade route for key traffic between the two great Houses, which lead Kusari Naval Forces to survey further Sigmas systems for alternate exploitable itineraries.

Sigma 21 system was an ideal candidate for securing one of these, being far enough from the current conflict main focused areas.
The system however contains planet Saigon, whose surveys have revealed more than ideal parameters for settlement; a jewel coveted by various powers of different magnitude.

In that regard, Kazuno Outpost may be a vital asset for House Kusari in the coming years, both to expand its influence and to maintain a military presence in Sigma 21 system, as a premise towards an integration to its sovereign space.

The first steps of the outpost construction has been undertaken by Kusari Naval Forces with a marginal assistance from Kishiro and Samura Keiretsus. Access to the facility has been strictly restricted since the beginning of the project, but with the outpost being declared as fully operational soon, Kusari Naval Forces will most likely open it for civilian traffic. For now, the facility is the home of a Naval Forces squadron and serves as a headquarter for the patrols protecting the route to Sigma 15 system. Large storage areas have also been constructed recently to house the supplies necessary for the heavy units operating in far Sigmas systems and Omicrons systems.

Rumors have it the enigmatic 66th division has actually displayed significant interest for the facility and is lobbying the Admiralty to be granted a large part of the facility for purposes unknown.

While Gas Miner Guild certainly noticed the construction effort in Sigma 21 system, the organization made no statement about this project, nor attempted to hinder it as of yet. The war declaration made by House Rheinland is probably the reason of such a passive stance, Gas Miner Guild having to prepare for the conflict to come and being in no position to antagonize House Kusari as well. It is however very unlikely Gas Miner Guild would accept House Kusari claims over Sigma 21 system, considering already the system as its sovereign space.

The relations between House Kusari and Gas Miner Guild have been difficult following Kurile crisis, and no agreement could be reached to replace the old Aomori treaty. As long as the Great House and its neighbor will be unable to forge new agreements, the status of recently chartered systems such as Sigma 21 will be ambiguous at best, leaving loopholes for all sort of appetites.
