For those of you who have seen the new Star Wars, how do you like the bomber concept in it?
I felt that the capital ship fighting was close to what we have in Discovery, but the thing that changed all the interaction was how the bombers operated.
I don't want to get into it too much in the first post, for everyone who hasn't seen the movie until now, consider that everything below is a:
Those bombers looked nothing like our bombers (A more armored version of Very heavy Fighter), but rather like freighters or transports with bomb hatches inside of them. So this entire thing with dreadnought looked like Walker's Trick - trying to ram a big capital ship with a smaller one with a lotta bombs inside.
Speaking of, I have a lot of concerncs about this film in general.
Mostly about the laws of physics and it's not about them jedi.
It's about the space fights. For an example, how this entire thing with bombers worked. Nonetheless they opened up on a dreadnough in the open space with alive crew inside, but there were no signs of dehermitization. And these bombs fell down on a dreadnought like rocks.
If The First Order ships have Mass Effect fields around them nowadays, I can forget that. But still, this takes place in the very beginning of the film.
I'd have to watch a movie (one day) to participate in your bombers discussion, my old friend. Or, you could please explain what's the suggestion here.
I QQ-ed a lot about bombers, mostly about bomber bombs and/or bomber mines. I'm telling you: devs are reading our threads and I was so happy when they gave us bombs, even two kinds of them. Only what's wrong there (imho) is they didn't turn aiming cross OFF for bombs. Cross is currently showing where bombs will NOT fall, most of the time.
I guess it's bad for attracting new players, so maybe better if it's off, or not moving at least.

2. The SW VIII bomber concept is just trash, I remember the good old times when the bombs of the Star Wars bombers were the good old Proton Torpedoes.
I agree to the physics problem there, but keep in mind that objects with a high mass generate a gravitational force, the bombs shouldn't have fallen that fast but instead they should have slowly moved towards the dreadnaught. And yeah, Proton torpedoes, like our own nova torpedos are much better as a concept overall.

But the fact that i liked most was that the bombers had to wait until the guns of the dreadnaught were destroyed, in order to operate, and that when the fighters appeared, they were mostly dead very fast.
All in all, everyone has to admit that that was a cool capital ship encounter, one of the best that i have seen in a movie.
It was indeed carpet bombing, much akin to a WWII bomber raid.
As for the speed they unloaded the bombs on top of the target, in space, maybe they were not dropped, but being catapulted from their railings?
well those "new" bombers are basicly a stand in for the old flyingfortess from ww2, were the numbers were their best shield . to be fair they are not even have tinfoil as armor and if the bombs are armed.... well you see it in the movie.
Also, Star Wars was always about aesthetics first, reasoning later, from Day One. It runs on what looks cool at the moment.
I mean, who would think that an AT-AT is a good idea for cost when the Empire has access to ground troops that are established to be really good at wrecking light infantry, among other things.
Did not like them, the only reason they are in the movie is to give a link between to characters who are sisters and the actions that revolve around the bombers are written to provide that link. So, they needed to make a story link between two characters and built the whole "Huge" bombers with "Gravity" bombs to fit and support that link, ignoring the physics of space and a whole bunch of other stuff.
Star Wars fan since opening day in ´77, and I was not impressed with this latest installment, I guess that is what happens when you sell it to the "It is a small world" Cult.
