That would be the Deimos-class Corvette from Freespace 2 to me. Funny enough, we have a ship of a very similiar shape and size, which is considered a battleship.

Deimos didn't -just- have forward guns, it had everywhere guns (try taking one out as a solo bomber wing on max difficulty). Oddly for a videogame spaceship it had great angles of convergence and logical, layered defences.

Although if we're getting into freespace, I want to see a sathanas.




(for scale, the Sathanas is something like four kilometres long and nearly as massive in other axis. And that's it one-shotting the largest human ship in the game, in a universe where the weapons are considerably above the power rating of Freelancer weapons). It's about fifty times the size of that Deimos.

It would take seven minutes of solid flight to even get in range from the perspective of where the player is - and they're flying a pretty nippy spacefighter. Freespace had the best sense of scale.

However the Sathanas has a hilarious lack of buttguns.
