She laughed again. "Have you seen the people left there? The place is a mess." She said, shaking her head. There was people she trusted more some less. Some officers she liked more others she disliked. But there was no real friendship anywhere along these lines. She actually never had time for that, or at least told that to herself. And now it felt like that chance passed by.
"I'm very much alone here I'm afraid." She said then, hoping that'd finally satisfy him and he'd stop making her regret not having spent time on relations and relationships.
It was the very same issue Sherry had. All alone. Isolated. "I feel like that is the fate of being a rogue higher-up. A shame, really." His focus switched from Manhattan back to her, then to her wine glass. For quite a moment neither of them said anything, before he looked at her again. "Would you like do dance with me?"
She blinked a few times before she'd say anything. "Dance with you?" She asked, afraid she'd not heard right and would be embarrassed. Dance with him? What did he mean? Just here? Actually dancing. This was really not remotely like any other day.
"Yes. Turn on some slow music and dance with me. Your hand on my shoulder, mine at your side. Classic waltz. You did learn that in school, probably." He smirked at her, gently. A bold move, but what really had he to lose. "Isn't that what is expected from higher-ups at certain ceremonies?"
Of course she could dance. For some reason for millenia now everyone preserved these traditions. Traditions that were rooted so far they went back into medieval times on Earth. There was something about them that made the elite preserve them. "I can dance... yes." She replied carefully. She was really not sure, this sounded embarrassing but in a way also, rather nice. "Just here? Right now?"
"Yes. Just here, right now. If you don't have fitting music around, I have some on my PDA." That was quite helpful when he was with Elena. Because of that, he used his spare time on the Apahanta to train it again. Now it would come in handy. Taking a final good swig of the wine, he smirked at her, then he stood up, taking off his jacket to hang it around the backrest of the chair. Hoping she would take care about the music in the meantime, he let his eyes follow her moves, waiting for her to be ready.
She kept looking at her glass for a moment and then slowly got up. This felt more than a bit awkward but what worse could happen. Even if it was incredibly embarrassing she could even just keep him here and no one would know. She quickly pushed that thought aside again then and went to actually turn on music. It had been years since she needed this. "Why... dance?"
"Do you have any better ideas right now? I think if I keep asking you questions, I'll end up annoying you. When we dance, you can step on my foot and pretend you didn't do it on purpose," Ezrael said quietly, with a toothy grin on his face. Stepping closer to her, he gently grabbed her hand and placed his other hand at her side, without hesitation. He reduced his smirk to make her less uncomfortable, wanting to appear more serious right now.
She allowed him to lead this. She felt awkward but she wouldn't show it to him. This was something she'd had to learn for years. It was only as she suddenly had him close that she realized what he was doing. It wasn't unwelcome but still surprising. "Did you have to learn this on Curacao?"
Very gently and carefully they moved in basic steps to the music, adjusting to the rhythm. Not only was it the first physical contact they had, but also was it a rather close one. Noticing she wasn't doing anything against it, he gifted her with his sovereign smirk. "When puberty kicked in for me, I shifted my focus from school to anything that was likely to help me impress women. Surfing, diving, later hoverbikes. Dancing was also a thing, both partner dances and stuff like shuffling. And you?"
