This is one rank structure from at least the US Marine Corps perspective. The Navies may be more helpful and I'll get that squared away if anyone looks like they give a hoot. Otherwise its here for the fun of it.

In simple terms think of the Es as Enlisted= Ground troops, crewmen, and support personel.

Think of the Os as Officers. Commanders for those men and women. In the Marine Corps, it takes at least a Captain to fly I think. Dusty Lens is also a Marine vet and he used to work in the air wing so he would probally know for sure. I was a ground pounder basically.

E-1 Private

E-2 Private First Class

E-3 Lance Corporal

E-4 Corporal

E-5 Sergent

E-6 Staff Sergent

E-7 Gunnery Sergent (Combat M.O.S.) / Master Sergent (Specialist)

E-8 First Sergent (Combat M.O.S.) / Master Gunnery Sergent (Specialist)

E-9 Sergent Major

E-10 Sergent Major of the Marine Corps (Dont know about other branches.)

O-1 2nd Leutenient

O-2 Leutient

O-3 Captain

O-4 Major

O-5 Leutenient Colonal

O-6 Colonial

O-7 Brigader General

O-8 Major General

O-9 Leutentient General

O-10 General

O-11 (1only) Commadant.

Interesting... it seems that =CR= has infiltrated your ranks, as it seems to say "O-6 Colonial".:P

Interesting. This might prove useful. If anyone has any experience in their nation's Navy, I think that the Naval command structure would prove useful as well, if they could post it.

it's "colonel" =P

EDIT:

Rank names seem to have come up as an issue in patriot's thread, about indies calling themselves 'admirals'.

Nobody here seems to use the same ranking system, maybe it would be good for a standard system to be implemented by all factions, or at least similar factions (militant factions would use one system, police would use another, etc.)

I tend to go by commander / sub commander as the first and second in charge on my capships. My junker goes by captain as it's a smaller vessel.

Also being picky, you don't aquire rank until you hit the <strike>NPC </strike> NCO stage, so the various types of pivate arn't ranks. Well in the British amy anyway.

British army NCO ranks:
-Lance Corporal
-Corporal
-Sergeant
-Staff/colour Sergeant
-WO2 (Warant Officer)
-WO1/RSM (Warrent officer)

I'll dig out the Officer ranks later and edit them in.

EDIT: what the hell am I going on about? I meant NCO not NPC... :P
EDIT2: I was under the impession the crew member that commanded the ship was the Captain, a a commander of a group consisting of moe than one capital ship was a commadore.

In my mind;
Fleet Admiral - Leads a battle fleet. (2+ BSs, 2 Cr each, 4 GBs each, fighters, and bombers.)
Admiral - Leads a small fleet with one large ship. (1 BS escorted by 2 Cr, 4 GBs, and fighters.)
General - A form of Admiral, except he usually leads smaller fleets, has a smaller flagship, and isn't a normal naval officer, but does other things, such as military intelligence against an opponent.
Commander - Leads a small fleet with a medium-sized ship. (1 Cr escorted by 2 GBs, fighters, and bombers.) Or can lead a large (battleship) sized ship, but without a fleet. (1 BS escorted by fighters.)
Captain - Commands a single ship, and is usually assigned to a fleet commanded by a General, Admiral, or Fleet Admiral.

Most of the people in FL with capships would fall under Captain. Battlecruiser owners could call themselves commanders, as well as some cruiser captains could..

Admirals and Fleet Admirals would only be people who command battleships that are a part of player factions.. And indie BS owner is simply an indie BS owner and probably shouldn't have the ship in the first place.. They would be called Commanders. But, for example and please don't let this go to your ego, Eppy would be a Fleet Admiral of the Outcasts, as his flagship is a battleship, and he has other battleships that can escort him, as well as countless cruisers, gunboats, fighters, and bombers. I would be the Fleet Admiral of AW. We do already have that rank, and its actually below my current one, but if I were not the leader, yet still had all the stuff I have atm, thats what I'd be, as I control the flagship (battleship that can be escorted by other BSs, Cruisers, GBs, fighters, and bombers). There are many more examples..
