Fischer was suprised that Haupt still hadn't dropped the game. Her barage of inquiries made it aparent that she was clearly interested in his proposal. But if Fischer knew something, it was that he wouldn't be the one to drop the facade first. So he kept on playing. “I mean there's plenty to choose from. My personal favorite would be a message included with the virus saying something along those lines: 'This is the work of the Frühlingswache. Leave the smugglers in Frankfurt alone.' Framing us in such an obvious fashion could only be the work of the Corsairs and the Rose will know that.”
Fischer was yet again close to letting his love for grand-scale mind games taking over, but kept his composure this time. He reached a point where he could use more of his energy on looking relaxed, despite still feeling quite stressed.
She really liked this man's thinking, and she had to admit that she wouldn't be able to hide that much longer. Sure, he thought that he looked right through her mindgame, but she knew that he had walked right into her trap. A trap that he would likely have to fight to get out of. She brought up a red eagle on the holoprojector, letting both hands hit the table at the same time. "I've heard enough for now. You have just volunteered for piloting the freighter to Bruchsal... I'll provide you with the details on where you have to go and when you leave. Be ready." The door behind him unlocked with another click - but without any noticeable movement made by her. "Oh, and Fischer. You will have to figure out how you'll explain to your superior what you just did, because he'll find out eventually."
He stared at the image of the red eagle for a few seconds. Red eagle - roter Adler, or rather 'Rote Adler'. While he was aware of the connection between this militant guerilla troup from Nuremberg and the Bundschuh, he obviously needed to look into it a little further - and he had to do it quickly before being sent out to Bruchsal. He would have liked to avoid that trip, but in this case he had been outsmarted, there was no way around it. He answered the news that he would be piloting the freighter with a quick nod.
As the door behind him unlocked he turned to leave, already in thoughts, when Haupt hit him again. 'Your superior'. “Oh I'm sure that he will find out very soon. I'll improvise.” He would never improvise. “I'll lay low until I receive further instructions, Frau Generalministerin.”
Fischer stepped out into the hallway, past the guard that couldn't help but stare at the man that occupied this much of Nika Haupts' time without getting thrown out - at least not in the literal sense. Fischer came to the conclusion that he would count this meeting as a partial success. Promises have been made, now it's time to deliver.
'Explain to your superior what you just did' He rolled his eyes. He had to work with superiors like Wolf for his entire career. As if that was the part to worry about.
