Re: Unwarranted attack and Destruction at the Hands of SA
Sirs,
I would like to file a formal compliant due to the destruction of my ship outside of NY today. I was going to Manhattan and stopped for authorization to land. I have a Nomad thruster, that has been on my ship for a long time and I had actually forgotten it was there. I was told I have to buy a nomad license for it. In respond I ask what the fine for said violation was. He told me it was death. Now I don't care about the thruster and have already traded it out, but I 5 million credits or death is a steep price tag. I offered to give the officer in question possession of the thruster, and when he told me he couldn't do that, because he was not authorized to handle it, I offered to jettison the thruster and destroy it in front of him, and that too was not acceptable. It seems clear to me that these laws are not about stopping the spread of nomad technology, but instead about making money for your organization. Why is it that the destruction of said material is not enough? And 5 million credits? That is insane when you don't allow for any other choice.
I would like to know SA's official policy in regards to traders willingly giving up the item in question. I have radio logs of the event, but will not post the publicly. I would also like to question why the officer in question allowed ships to open fire on me while we were discussing the situation without say anything to them about holding fire.
The Vessel in question was offered the chance to obtain clearance to use the Thruster in question, it was denied and the suspect attempted to negociate.
Now i had a choice, illegally accepting the thruster which was offered to be transfered or doing things by the book.
I chose by the book, when it was clear the suspect was not going to pay for a license i assumed they chose the second option by default, therefore under my orders my crew opened fire and destroyed the suspect.
should Photographic evidence be required for proof of the thruster in question's posession i can provide it.
I also offered to destroy the thruster IN FRONT OF YOU. Whats wrong with that? I can't see any problem except that that way you don't get your 5 million credits. Also, I have admitted to haveing the thruster, you keep saying you have proof... Proof of what I am Admitting to. I thought this was the SA not the LPI, I thought your pilots were smarter than that.

Good Day,
I will not at this point speak about the actions of the officer in question, but to the later comment you made. You said, and I quote;
Quote:It seems clear to me that these laws are not about stopping the spread of nomad technology, but instead about making money for your organization.
Now, I am not sure where you got this notion from but let me enlighten you on the costs to the navy of such an extensive protection program. Intialy we have to send our Engineers to work on your Craft to make it safe. To make it a swift and smooth operation, we try and use 3 of our engineers to do that. Those 3 Engineers need to operate in a Specailly desgiend chamber, and protection suits to ensure that if an inicdent where to happen and one of them where to become infected we would quickly identify it, and remove it. These Chambers, and suits cost the Liberty Goverment aproximetly 50 million credits. Now if we also factor in paying the Engineers and security staff of aproximetly 15 personelle, and the up-keep and updating of these facilities, we have an aproximet annual cost of 20 million credits.
All that laid out, do you realy think such a program is in place to make money for our organization? I assure you, we break less than even in running this program.
In closing when you make a complaint it is generaly a very poor idea to insult the policy before getting a response, please, we find it rude and don't let it happen again
"Unlicensed Possession of Nomadic Entities; Defined as the Theft of Nomadic entities. Most commonly applied to those who possess or trade Nomad equipment or Brains without a special Cambridge or Willard Research Institute license. Penalty for unlicensed possession or trading is death. Anything in a Nomad vessel will be shot."
Thats fine, you continue to rob the wealth of people who try to abide by your laws and you drive them into the Arms of groups like the Xeno's and Liberty Rouges. You create your own problems when you take these authoritarian, and somewhat draconian measures. I showed no sign of fleeing and the response I got was to have my shields and some hull removed before discussions finished, and while still trying to figure out my rights was given a "you have 10 seconds to give me the 5 million or you die." Sounds very much to me like the tactics petty thugs use out in the Omicrons and Omegas, I wouldn't have thought it would have come from the supposed heart of civilization and more from those chosen to keep the peace.
Unfortunately, this incident has made me aware of the corruption in Liberty space, and I will have to be spending more time there. As I don't break the laws, I shouldn't have a problem, but I have a feeling, I will now be singled out for unwarranted attention, but Understand, I will not be silent about the abuse of power that have pervaded the law enforcement structure of Liberty. Maybe one day the people of Liberty can be free from your economic shackles.

Greetings.
I apolgise for butting in on your conversation, but I do so love using the toys that the Hackers lend us from time to time.
I find it wonderful to see that the SA is not teaching it's recruits to think outside of the box, as it were. Gives me hope that the Rogues can continue to make gains without being too hassled by your incompetence.
Why do I have the feeling I'm going to suffer because of this. As usual! I concur with whoever said to 'think outside the box', as now the whining brats in New York have something else to muddy the comms with.
Whilst the Liberty Code keeps Liberty on the right track, each situation must be dealt with individually in a responsible manner.
Had I not been otherwise occupied by some of the local thugs, I may have been able to negotiate.

Maybe its just me but does the SA sound like Pirates more and more every day? The Law are supposidly ment to be the guys PROTECTING our Liberties not pirating people every chance they get. One day "Lawful Pirates" will get whats coming to them. Mark my words.
