Okay, I have a Terminal server in my room at home, all configured for RDC. I've gotten the IP, and I want to be able to connect from the college. Reason: They won't let me install Skype or Xfire here. I installed them on my server, and I just want to connect to it.

Oh, and if anyone knows of a remote desktop-type program that will allow me to play FL over the 'net, that's cool too.

Just the regular Remote Desktop in Windows.

(Start>Accessories>Remote Desktop)

On your router at home, make sure you have the port you're using to connect to RD forwarded to that server box. Then at your school just connect to it using the IP and port number.

Suggestion, if you have a Dynamic IP, look in to this.

The IP seems to be static, it's been the same every day I checked it for a week straight. Oh, and I don't have access to the router settings. I may be able to get dad to let me in for five minutes.

The thing I use to control my wife's grandma's 2 computers is Teamviewer.

It's free for 20h of use per month if I remember correctly. Anyway. Worth checking out. No IP hassle needed since it uses the Teamviewer's server to route the traffic. It's not the fastest solution but reliable. And you can have the server to load up the server side of Teamviewer at Windows startup.

But if you are planning to play FL over the remote connection you won't be able to. You bandwidth at home (unless you have well over 1Mb upload) will be the problem.

The same goes to all remote desktop programs. It needs to send back and forth a "video" feed of your desktop size of your resolution. You'll be able to use skype and other IM programs, but expect stutter.

Another remote desktop program is vnc

Flying under radar.

There are pass through settings on some routers that need to be enabled for that as well sometimes. Also, some modern routers have a built in hardware firewall that can (ussually don't) block it too. Just things to check.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.
